GoogleMaps on Motorola Q Video PreviewFebruary 6, 2007
By: Christopher Meinck
Announced earlier, Google has released GoogleMaps for Windows Mobile Smartphone. In this video preview, we take a look at some of features found in this new application. The application is a mobile version of the popular GoogleMaps. If you have an external GPS receiver, GoogleMaps enables you to track your current position. Among other useful features, GoogleMaps provides driving directions and allows you to find nearby business or points of interest. As seen in our video preview, I selected Pizza and Google maps provided a number of destinations central to my location. Selecting the corresponding numbers on the Moto Q's keyboard brings up contact information for the chosen location. To download your free copy of GoogleMaps for Windows Mobile Smartphone, enter www.google.com/gmm in the address bar of Internet Explorer on your Moto Q. Set as favorite Bookmark

| I'm rubbing my eyes still. Can this awesome app be free?! I just tried it our right now and it's amazing. Major props to Google for this. Personally it blows VZ Navigator out of the water. I don't know, what does everyone else think? | |

How does this differ from Maps4PDA that many of us have already installed on our Q? And in phone setting then network, you have GPS 911 and "on location" as an option. What does that mean? Trent |

I've found Windows Mobile Live beta to be superior. http://mobile.search.live.com/client/download.aspx |

| Call me dumb, but I cannot see how to install Windows Live Search. It says it is a .cab, but there is no installer and the only thing I see is an XML file. How do you install this? Thanks. | |

| Forget my earlier dumb question.... I see that this needs to be downloaded from the web right to your mobile phone. After researching this a tad, it looks like Live Search is a cleaner and much faster app than Google..... | |

| Does a GPS receiver work with either one of these programs? And if so, would anybody recommend a receiver that would work that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg? | |
