By: Christopher Meinck

Motorola, Inc. announced today it has expanded the functionality of the Motorola Q with the launch of MOTO Q PRO. Designed for enterprise users, the MOTO Q PRO solution features enhanced security software, an extended-life battery, additional mobile accessories, document editing capabilities, direct shipment services and enterprise call center support. Motorola has also enabled an enterprise-specific order portal and staging services to preload software.

"The MOTO Q PRO solution was created as a direct result of enterprise customer feedback," said Kevin Goulet, director of Product Management, Enterprise Mobility Solutions, Motorola Networks and Enterprise. "To better meet enterprise user requirements, we have bundled a package of features to enhance the Motorola Q user experience and provide added device security, document editing options and the accessories needed to extend user mobility."

The MOTO Q PRO solution includes enhanced security software whether used alone or in conjunction with leading mobile email solutions. The MOTO Q PRO solution features the Mobile Security Platform component of the Motorola MOTOPRO Mobility Suite. Specifically, the personal firewall and intrusion detection features of the Mobile Security Platform protect the MOTO Q PRO from hackers and common attacks. Other features include selective or complete data encryption, data wiping, and real-time event logging. MOTO Q PRO also supports enterprise VPN solutions to help safeguard enterprise data and networks, as well as a password protection feature which provides a first line of defense in the event the device is lost or stolen.

"Mobile device security continues to top the list of concerns for enterprise CIOs and IT managers," said Goulet. "The MOTO Q PRO solution meets critical mobile security requirements, both at the individual user level and at the enterprise level."

With the Mobile Security Platform and the other components of the Mobility Suite, IT managers can implement the same security and management policies on mobile devices like the Q that they employ on desktop and laptop computers.

The MOTO Q PRO solution helps professionals stay mobile by including a vehicle power adapter and extended battery for power on the go.

Running Windows Mobile 5.0, MOTO Q PRO supports a wide range of enterprise and personal email/PIM solutions It allows users to download, view and edit Microsoft Word documents in addition to viewing attachments in a variety of other formats including Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, photos and video clips. It’s open architecture and familiar operating environment opens the door to an expanding library of applications and eases system integration.

To simplify an enterprise deployment of the Q, Motorola has created an enterprise-specific order portal that enables enterprises to specify device functionality based on IT policies and purchasing processes. Staging services are also provided for preloading authorized software, inserting company-specific user instructions in the product box and shipping devices directly to end users.

I called their 1800 number. They want $158 for the software upgrade in addition that you must buy a Q through them. It is the same Q that people already own. Motorola must not be making anough off of their phones.

They're buying the market at $49 a pop. The margin can't be much if any.

Unless they are increasing the power to the mini SD port, so I can run the Spectech Wifi mini sd network adapter then I am not interested in whatever they are selling.
