If I setup Gmail using POP3, each message that I've read will be deleted from the device on the next Send/Receive after I've read it. If I use IMAP4, the bodies of some messages are blank. (It seems that the blank messages tend to be HTML without any external links.) I have a Moto 9h on AT&T.

Todd regading the issue "Everytime I try and download it keeps asking for my password again. I tried to do the install twice and it still doesn't work." Try enable POP in gmail settings (that should be done using gmail web). Than save and sign off from gmailweb. Than try again in your MotoQ.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!! The 3 things that made a difference were adding recent: to user name, enabling POP on Gmail account, and closing my email account. This was the 15th website I had looked at. Now the only bummer is that, even though it's great to just push 1 button, it doesn't seem as user friendly as the web version. Oh well !

This was of great assistance, saw the link to this off the Gmail page. Also there is a note there that you must also add "recent:" in front of your e-mail address in the box for USER NAME, so you would put in "recent:name@gmail.com". The post is here: http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail-POP-and-Forwarding/msg/39436713e368f0e5

You ALSO need to go to your Gmail account on your home computer and when signed in, the upper right corner shows SETTINGS. Click here, and when in that next page click the tab that shows Forwarding and POP. At this point ENABLE POP settings, then SAVE CHANGES at the bottom, then sign out. THEN your Q will work... it's taken me 3 days to get to this point.... Relief at last!

I figured out how to beat the password screen from repeatedly popping up. What everyone said is right. You have to change the Settings in your gmail account from your computer to POP "ON". ALSO, you must then log out of your account. I stayed logged in and it wouldn't work. So if you change the settings, log out of gmail on your computer. Maybe even delete the account on your Q and start the process over.

The "recent" fix worked for me. Question - now that I've downloaded messages, the Q displays all of the sent/archived messages. If I only want non-archived "inbox" messages displayed, is there any way to do that? Thanks. Great article.

For the MOTO Q gmail send / recieve error (where you dont actually recieve any mail after you've "downloaded" it all...) I recommend going into your gmail account settings on your moto Q. and changing your username field to 'recent:yourusernamehere' save it and try it again. This is of course for those of you who have enabled your PO3 and still cannot get the Q and gmail to sync properly. I hope this solves most of everyone's issues. I found the help hidden on some forum so hopefully this will spread around.

I followed your instructions exactly, and I saw the same things captured in your screenshots, but... My Q begins to download 640 records and starts counting down, finishes, but then NOTHING is displayed on the screen. I know I am connected to my gmail account because I can send mail just fine but I cannot see my inbox for some reason. Any advice?

Have a problem. Setup an account and want to be able to access my mail through Mac Mail and also through my Q, but if I set my gmail settings to leave my mail in the inbox, everytime I access it through Mac Mail, it keeps downloading all the mail. But if I don't leave it in the inbox, I can't access it with Q. What can I do?

!!!!!READ THIS NEXT!!!!! One thing the instructions is missing is VERY critical: Sign into your gmail (via internet) and go to settings. In settings go to "Forwarding and POP" Make sure the "Enable pop for all mail"... and hit save. Note: when u send from your Q, it will save in you gmail online "sent folder". BUT, erasing off your Q doesnt erase from the web.

I am able to send emails from my gmail account on my Q. But no emails show up in my inbox other than the "gmail is different" one. I enabled POP3 before setting up my gmail account on my Q (as directed above) and was able to get through the set-up process. Then, when I did the first send/receive, my phone said it was going through like 300-some items, but when it finished, i only had one email in my inbox - the first welcome to gmail one. i've had my gmail account for 3-4 yrs and certainly have more than 1 email that should have shown up on my Q. I cleared out the temp folder on my phone, deleted the gmail account and tried to set up the account again and had exactly the same problem. I can use the web-based mobile gmail, but don't like how awkward and limited it is. Please help! Thanks, -lauren

I have pop3 enabled, and can send messages from gmail. However, it does not every take in new messages. Instead, it randomly gives me "new" messages from 2004 with today's date on the stamp. So I can send a test message to another address and it will get there fine, but not to myself. The first time I tried to check "new messages" after setting things up it spent a long time "checking" 336 messages, despite the fact I have about 5 unread messages. Then after "checking" the 336, all it does is give me a couple e-mails from 2004, or nothing at all.

I am having the same problem as machet and jwalker. I try multiple times to login. Get a login failed, check your setttings. I have used outlook w/gmail for over a year and had no real problems, but with this mobilewindows and this phone, it does not seem to work. While I could use the browser option, I would prefer outlook. Sigh.

I had the same login hangup with my gmail account for a while. I solved it by updating the Q software, dial *228, then choose option 1; dial *228, option 2; then dial *22899. Worked great for a while sending and receiving. Now I can send gmail from my Q, but am not receiving it. Very frustrating.

Before you even attempt this process to set up your Q phone, go to your gMail account and edit the email settings to enable POP. This will allow your Q to download the mail from the gMail site.

I was having the same problem where it would say its connecting, logging on then give me an error message. Solution- Your settings in your Q are correct. You now have to go to your gmail account via your computer and go to settings -> forwarding and POP -> and Enable POP for your email (here you can also mess with the settings for how email is handled when accessed through the Q)

Did you even try this? Guess what, it doesn't work. My Q starts downloading my GMail, i can even read a few messages. Then when it gets done checking message 285 / 285 ( I have no idea where it comes up with that number of emails) the Q deletes the 5 or so emails it did pull in.
