How I can set up Bluetooth tethering to enable the Moto Q as a modem

It is possible to set up Bluetooth tethering with your Moto Q smart phone, also known as Bluetooth DUN (dial up networking).

One of our members has provided the following instructions:

Locate the CAB file at this site.

  • Install the CAB file
  • Reboot your Q
  • Dial ##342587 and hit Send
  • Set the dialup option to Enabled and hit Exit

After you go through this process, you should be able to pair your phone to your laptop again and it should automatically install a "Standard Modem over Bluetooth". Just create a Dial-up connection using this modem with a phone number of #777. No username or password is necessary.

Thanks to Jeremy for this great FAQ and to HowardForums where this orginated. Visit our forum to discuss tethering your Moto Q using Bluetooth.

This does not work on Sprint-versions. It "dials the number", as I originally mentioned back in Jan.
