Default Non-Outlook?

No search results for this...

Doe anyone have a way of tricking Active Sync/Moto Q9h of looking at thunderbird instead of Outlook for contacts?

I don't have outlook, and don't want to buy it - I use thunderbird for my address book on 3 computers and would like to be able to sync the Q9h contacts/calendar off them.

Any ideas?

Mozilla's Sea Monkey and Sun Bird don't seem to have anything to facilitate this.

I found an add-on for T-bird called "Lightning", which is supposed to work. Not sure if it really does, 'cause when I went to sync it on my home PC (where I use T-bird) after syncing it with my work PC (Outlook, but not by choice) it said that continuing would erase all of the Outlook data on the device. I wasn't in the mood to futz with it at the time, and haven't gotten around to looking again. But it might be what you are looking for. If it does work for you, let us know...

Lightning is their calendar integrated into T-bird. Don't know if there's a way for it to sync with the Q on it's own, you're most likely going to still need another application. (Though, I don't know what use T-bird is without the Lightning addon. Yeah, does e-mail, but everyone needs some sort of calendar don't they?)

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Yeah, email isn't a concern - I just pull off my pop3 server to see what's there and reply if needed, but my desktop is still my primary email point.

What I really need are dates/times/locations of events - not that it's hard to input on the Q, but why do something twice if you really don't need to?

Will let you all know what I find with lightning.

I must be missing something, cause I can't find where to start a sync from within Thunderbird/Lightning - and ActiveSync says it's completed syncing my calendar, but I don't have Outlook on the machine. I tried restarting thunderbird, but still didn't have anything in the calendar.

Earlier, n99hockey said they thought 'intellisync' would work - what's that and where do I find it? Again, can't find anything other than import/export in thunderbird/lightning - and can't find where the calendar file is on the Q anyway.

More thoughts?

As I thought, I didn't think there was anything in the Lightning addon that would somehow enable syncing through AS. Though, it is rather nice having a calendar integrated with your e-mail client instead of having to launch Sunbird for that. Don't know anything about intellisync, but try checking out BirdieSync. I just found it. Costs $20 to buy, but has a trial available. Let us know if it works for you.

Default BirdieSync...

Works!!

Oh joyous day, callou, callais!!

Sorry - I'm just really happy I don't have to only enter data with the Q keyboard anymore - not that it's difficult - it's just that I can type so much faster on my desktops.

Now, for anyone else who wants to try it - it's a little touchy:

Thunderbird should be closed

Connect and let A-sync run a full sync before running birdiesync

You may have to try installing more than once - my system kinda got lost while BirdieSync was attempting to shutdown A-sync to do it's magic.

But it does work - my desktop calendar is full, and my Q's contacts are numerous.

Now if I could just figure how to keep Media Player from trying to sync every damn file I have.... but that's another thread.

Thanks All!

You can tell AS to not sync media files...

And you're welcome, now it looks like I might have to go and install T-bird and Lightning again now that I have a reason to use it. I had been content using webmail interfaces, but now perhaps I'll finally get around to archiving all my e-mail like I've been meaning to for the past year or so...
