Default Motorola Q with Windows Vista and "Windows Mobile Device Center" issues

Has anyone upgraded to vista and know how to sync the Q to vista? Because I upgraded my computer to windows vista but ActiveSync isn't compatible so I downloaded "Windows Mobile Device Center" because that's what you're supposed to use. But the thing doesn't recognize my Q at all. Anyone have any ideas on what i should do??

I also greatly interested in this. I upgraded to Vista and had the same experience. I can sync some info. for example when I load Landwares Pocket Quicken I can sync. I can Sync Windows media. But none of my contacts will sync with windows contacts, my calendar will not sync and tasks etc. I read that you have to purchase the new Outlook 2007 to sync. Does anyone know how to sync PIM without Outlook?

Do you have a link that says I have to buy Outlook 2007? If that's the only way I can sync my phone, I'll have to purchase it. I can't live without my Q telling me what to do.

I am running Vista and have had a Q and now a Q9m working with multiple Vista pc's. Try this, go into your Settings and then Connections. On the USB - PC setting, uncheck the Enable advanced network functionality. Then reconnect the USB cable and Vista should recognize your device and install the software. Might take a while for it to go to Windows Update and locate the proper driver. It has been easier with the Q9m than with the Q.

I wish I could help you. I had the SAME problem, it was like my Q wasn't plugged in.

I reinstalled vista for some other reason, (my pvr card stopped being recognized by Media Center no matter what drivers I installed), and after I did that, I decided to try mobile device center again. I downloaded the newest version, then plugged in the Q. Low and behold, it works perfectly now.

The bottom line, on a fresh vista install, get the latest version of mobile device center before plugging in the Q.

If you can't get it to work, don't reinstall vista, it isn't worth it just for the Q. But if you were planning on it, give it a try after the reinstall...

I did a clean install of Vista Business and then downloaded Windows Mobile Device Center. Had no problems syncing with the Moto Q. (and this coming from a Mac guy)

I actually "kinda" ran into this problem myself, and I want to ask the people that are having problems a few questions. First off, does Windows Mobile device center see your Q at ALL? The reason i ask this, and it seems that people are having problems with the "upgrade" and not clean installs. I was messing around with trying to get my Q to update to MOL3 under Vista. I kept hearing that you couldn't. well, i ran across a thread that said something about changing a driver for the smart phone using a driver used in activesync. I changed the driver that was used for the Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter under the network adapters and tried the update. it updated, but i'm not for sure if that was because of the driver AND putting the phone in bootloader mode, or if it was just bootloader mode. Anyway, after changing the driver, Device center kept saying that it had an error during the sync. Now, the Sync Center I think, showed my phone. If Sync Center shows your phone, but Device Center shows an error, then I think this is the problem. No matter what I did I couldn't get my Q to sycn up to Device Center after I changed the driver, and had to do a system restore back before I changed the driver, and it fixed it.

Based on what I had to do, and the fact that people that can't sync to a computer that was "upgraded" to Vista based on people that did a clean install and could sync, I think mobility center doesn't update the drivers, and can't use the drivers that activesync uses. I will be more than happy to dig through my computer to help anyone try and find ALL of the drivers that are needed to and fix this. I have no clue where the INI's or any of the drivers are stored, and if someone can point me in the direction I will be gladd to upload all the drivers off a working Device center.

I have been on the phone with MS support for 2 hours and can't find anybody yet who...well, who even knows that Vista doesn't use Activesync, much less somebody who can explain why the Vista Sync Center completes a sync successfully and the contacts on my phone have still not been updated with changed records on my PC's Outlook. Settings are simple - they don't seem to leave much room for human error. Ugh.
