Default Moto q9m activesync w/ comp via usb problem

just bought a moto q9m w/ verizon wireless. i wanted to connect my phone to my pc via usb cable with activesync and i'm having some problems. i use windows XP and the first thing i did was install the usb driver from the CD included. then, i installed activesync 4.5 from the CD. after having both installed and restarting my computer, i plugged in the usb cable to my phone.

the first problem i got was the new hardware Motorola USB driver NDIS blah blah. I searched around and turned off the "Enable advanced network func." replugged my phone and now the new hardware pops up again but this time with the Motorola Q Phone thing instead of the USB driver.

i've uninstalled everything and reinstalled again. i don't have wireless sync running (havent even dl'd the program thing). i've gone through all the troubleshooting tips from the phone, website, CD, and almost everything that i can get my hands on =[ i really want to connect my device but it seems like i can't. my computer doesn't have BT so that option is out already.

help please!! and sorry for the long post lol

Do you have a firewall running? If so, disable it for now.

Disable anti-virus, etc. as well.
Then run the installation software. I think what is happening is the usb controller is telling the machine to have your phone act as an external drive while the drivers from activesync are telling it to behave as it should and there is a conflict.

Does this make sense?

UPDATE: thanks for the suggestions tony and paco! although it didn't fix my problem lol. i uninstalled my usb drivers and reinstalled them and while doing that i found out that typing "c:\windows\inf" into the new hardware popup would find drivers needed. so i decided to do that with the new hardware popup i kept on getting with my moto and it installed "Windows USB Sync" driver and VIOLA all fixed =]
