cant get phone to communicate with pc - Motorola Q Forum

i just bought a q9h and installed activsync but i get the "cant install this hardware" when hooking up the phone. the pc does not have outlook and it says "and error occured during installation of windows mobile-based device #2. the driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry. this may be because the inf was written for windows 95 or later." what does this mean? i have xp. any helpwould be appreciated. thanks

what OS are you running ? XP ? Vista ?
firewall ?

i have xp and just the window firewall enabled.

Do you have all the updates to XP plus all the service packs?
It sounds like it's a USB problem & XP didn't support USB till Service Pack 1.
And make sure you plug into the USB port in the back of the PC b/c those are connected directly to the motherboard.

ive tried all ports. i think is a service pack issue because i had to erase the hard drive and start from scratch on my laptop a while back. i'll try to get the service packs updated.

well i updated windows to the service pack 1 and reinstalled activsync and it worked. thanks for all ur help.
