Default BT SYNC with Active Sync

Okay,
I have a friend still on a treo. He really likes my Q though.
His treo runs wm 5. He purchased a bluetooth dongle from Jabra. However activesync doesn't recognize it. Once installed he can bluetooth files over without using active sync. Same thing when we tried the Q9m. He is reformatting his machine. Originally I thought it was because treos have bad BT, but it did the same with my q. Could it be his machine, or is activesync via BT unreliable at best?

I just started using active sync via BT last week (the Kennsington USB micro adapter is awesome btw). once you have the phone paired with the PC's BT, you have to set active sync to look for the comm port that the bt is creating (mine's com7), then open AS from the phone, press the right soft key and select connect via bluetooth.

Even at this early point I can't remember how I did it exactly, although I do remember something like that happening. Open the active sync help menu and select "connecting a mobile device to a PC", and then select "connect to active sync using bluetooth". These are the instructions that I followed to get it working.

I can't speak for the dongle (I have built in bluetooth on my laptop)but the bluetooth sync with Activesync works flawlessly once you get the port sorted out. I use it to sync several times a week when I don't feel like finding the cable or when I tether when using PDAnet (Activesync needs to be active to use PDAnet.)

have you resolved the problem?

the key point that's often overlooked by most people is to configure your desktop's bluetooth serial port service to correspond with your activesync configuration. Depending on your bluetooth dongle, the menu navigation may differs, but you need to go to the configuration menu that allows you to configure your serial port service. If it's configured, remember what com port this serial service is/will-be binded to. If not, make sure you set it up correctly. Let's say the serial port service is running on com port 3. You will then go to Activesync (or Windows Mobile Device Center for vista), and configure the connection setting. Select com port 3 as serial com.

Then initiate activesync from your Q9 (WM's activesync > menu > connect via bluetooth), you should see a prompt on your desktop, asking you if you allow this incoming BT connection. just follow the instruction accordingly and you are done.

Yep I solved it. It works great!!!.
I have to see if I can automate it now with CT Scheduler...
