hey i started using birdie sync with thunderbird/lightning, great cheap easy to use alternative to outlook

sweet.... i would like to see some long time experiences from members who use it, often there are more or less hype's about new found applications and it the it seems to fades as quick as it came up...

Again this this doesn't appear to do the same as Outlook but if you only need you contacts or email synced the Thunderbird is an answer. I still like the all inclusiveness of Outlook ie. contacts, calender, tasks and notes (I don't use it for email as I use AOL IMAP and prefer to leave save mail on their server since I float between 4 PCs)

I may play with this on one of my PC's and see if I can get all the functions with add ons if Birdiesync is reported as free.

or you can add on lightning or get sunbird, both free and available on the same site as thunderbird. these allow you to sync both apointments and tasks as well as email and contacts. just like outlook unless im missing something else that outlook can do for me

No just the notes and the cost of Birdiesync.

Have you tried this set-up and it it as seamless as Outlook? I bought Outlook 2003 when I got my Q for $30 $us and I had to add smartphonenotes but works with activesync like it was made for each other. :-)

I do intend on trying these out on one of my other machines as I don't intend on buying any additional copies of Outlook. I am very interested on how these all work together. I been using Firefox and Opera on my PC lately and have installed a couple of Linux partitions and find everything works but some are simpler and slicker than others.

Nice to have choices. I hope we can get more details on ow these other options work.

I am wanting to do the software upgrade for my Q but I see that it will completely wipe all contacts and calendar info. I have been trying to sync it with Thunderbird/Birdiesync, but it isn't working at all. It keeps telling me attention required on the cards and events tabs. I just want to be able to save my 150 contacts. Any help?

make sure you uncselect contacts and select cards in the options menu of activesync. when you see action required sometimes unplugging your Q for a min will clear it up. also birdiesync has its own forum and offers excellent support
