Wireless sync cost with no data plan

I'm new to this site so forgive me if this has been answered in a previous post. I got the Q two days ago and I only have the $40 per month for 400 minute plan from Verizon. The IT person at work set it up to active sync my calendar with the phone. He also set up the wireless sync to get my exchange server emails. I called Verizon to see how much it would cost me each time I sync to retrieve emails and got the complete run around (he kept using the analogy that it would cost me over $7 just to load google.com). My IT person said that it would use about 1 of my phone minutes to sync. HELP! Who can give me a straight answer on this??!!

well since wireless sync uses data to sync i would have to believe the verizon guy. perhaps it would take 1 minute to sync...but if you get alot of emails and it keeps pushing to your phone your using data...therefore you are going to get charged. sooo if your company is paying for it then who cares but if you have to foot the bill then you might be in trouble...but it all depends on how frequent its set up to access the wireless sync to determine how high the bill would be...

the verizon guy probably wasnt so much giving you the run around as not wanting to quote you at a price since he has no idea whats a normal amount of emails for you. i think its like 2 cents a k of info, if your depending on your phone for buisness email i would get a data plan

You're right Jim.

No telling how many megabytes it will be to load. If you have the $40 data plan with the 450 minutes, then you are on the America's Core Choice plan. You get a $5/month discount. There is also Core Extra for $109.99 which is 1350 mins and $30 for data, and Core Max which is $169.99 for 4000 mins and $20 for data.

If you have this plan there is no additional charge. It doesn't matter if you use a minute to load since it will not use any of your minutes while you are online. What the VZW guy was trying to explain is that if you DO NOT have the data plan, you pay $0.015/kb which totals out to $15/1mb. This means only 3mb and you are back up to the price of the unlimited data plan.

If you stay on the plan that you are on you can sync all you want and never worry. Welcome to the Q and EverythingQ forum.

DUH!...Good catch Scot. I thought it said had the 40 dollars with the the 450 minute plan....

In that case....GET THE DATA PLAN....IT guy doesn't know what he was talking bout, you could end up with a huge bill otherwise. However, if you are just doing a little data you might be able to get away with the 10mb $24.99 data plan.

I appreciate the explanations! I just looked at my current bill online and saw that, in two days, I'm up to $10 in data charges. Looks like my IT guy was very wrong and I'll be signing up for a data plan
