i can uderstand why Verizon is reluctant to release upgades. That could cause more problems they VZW may not want to deal with the issues. Some people are REALLY, REALLY unable to help techs with technical issues.

Funny, I'm always counting down until the end of my contract, but I've NEVER switched carriers from my first cell phone X am't of years ago. My first cell phone was with Bell Atlantic (who then became what is now VZW). I really can't find anything better than the Bell Atlantic / VZW coverage area I've always known in my neck of the woods.

Here's some tidbits of info about the origins of VZW that have a 1 in a million shot of being useful to break those uncomfortable silences during a dinner party.

I email motorola and this is what I got:

Regarding your inquiry, unfortunately at this moment the Moto Q cannot be updated to Windows Mobile 6. Regarding making the phone compatabile with the new changes that Microsoft is launching on the market (Windows Vista, Office 2007, etc.). Motorola and Microsoft are working on this to release a new update to make possible, all the new options on the Moto Q.

At this moment the Moto Q is a CMDA cellphone (Verizon and Sprint phones), we hope that the next months is going to be launch on GSM technology such as Cingular or T-mobile.

Then I get an email from Verizon:

Verizon Wireless is committed to providing the very latest in products and services. At this time, we are unable to state if or when Windows Mobile 6.0 will be offered for your Motorola Q. We understand and apologize for any frustration regarding this but we are only able to provide information regarding products or services that we are currently offering. We are unable to disclose any unconfirmed information because it would be subject to change and could raise expectations that may not be met.

I called verizon last week and they told me that they are going to offer the upgrade and that it would be free. But they also said that they are still developing it for the Q and have no idea on when it is going to be available.

I would think that with the Q, VZW has been blown away with all the software problems. They were not used to "software" issues with just phones. Now, we have this Operating System in a phone. Lot of th problems are probably Microsoft's problems, not VZW. Look at all the returns mentioned just in this site. VZW gotta be shaking their heads, thinking they are in the phone business, not computer business.

With all the MOL1 and MOL2 update problems, I don't know if I'd chance an upgrade to WM6. My Q works fine.

I don't mind if they have an upgrade for 6.0 or not. 6.0 looks pretty nice, but I will be happy with 5.0.
