Default What phone is best for me?

Hey guys Found this forum by searching for some info on the Q9m, but after some reading Im wondering if its the best phone for me. So Im keeping my options open, and Im not even sure if I can get all the features I want in a phone.

First and foremost!

*Good signal!

*Id like to be able to use the phone to watch movies on as well, by using a sd card or some other media. By watching movies im sure ill have to resize/reformat them, but I spend a lot of time flying, so it would be nice to be able to use my phone as a media player.

* use as an mp3 player for traveling

* Id like to be able to use the phone as a wireless modem for my laptop while sitting at airports(or would it be better for me to get a USB modem or PC Card?)

* emailing isnt the biggest concern because I have my laptop everywhere, but would be nice.

My 2 year contract is up at the end of April, so I get the $100 discount, plus I get some percent off through my workplace as well.

Price really isnt a factor for me in the phone.

So say I have a movie thats in xvid format, what do I use to convert it so it will properly play on the phone, and how big would the 700mb xvid file then be once its converted?

Also, whats the biggest sd card I can add to the phone for storage?

Should I wait for a q9c? Or is there another phone that is a better choice, such as one of the blackberrys?

What type of video formats does the q9m play?

What is the speed I would get using my phone for a modem, vs using a dedicated PC card?

The blackberry is more of a workhorse than the q.. It all depends on what you really NEED out of it...The q9c has alot more fun stuff such as camera, nes games etc etc but the only real problem i have with the q from my previous blackberry is that there is no real direct Push email on the q like there is on the blackberry..I love the q and think personally it is much better than the blackberry i used to own and the q9c gets way way better reception than my blackberry did. and i think you can get an 8 gig for the q

The Q9c is exactly like the Q9m minus the music Homescreen.

I use my Q9m as an mp3 player when walking around town at least three days a week. After installing TCPMP it's great for this.

I have a new Zune that I watch most of my video on now, but the Q9m saved me over Christmas when I was stuck at my parent's house because I'd loaded up a couple movies. You will need a converter (since I'm at work I can't remember exactly what I use), but it's an easy process. Again, as far as the player on the Q9m, TCPMP comes through again.

Finally, don't forget Pocket Nester.

I haven't tried using the Q9m as a modem.

so when will I be able to check out a q9c? Or are the q9m and q9c for sure 100% the same hardware, just different home screen?

Whats your thoughts on the xv6900 or the sch-i760?

I like the 8 gigs part, still want to know about the file size of a converted video.

thanks for all the help so far!

If you check this thread (and the link to the specs for the Q9c) it seems that they have the exact same hardware.
http://www.everythingq.com/forum/mot...q9c-12900.html

When the the i760 came out the biggest complaints I saw from owners was it's size (it's supposedly quite thick) and most owners complained about the battery life being awful (of course a lot of Q users complain about the same thing).

As for the xv6900, it's not actually out for Verizon yet as far as Phonescoop is telling me. Of course it's just a different name for the HTC Touch so you could look reviews for that. I can tell you what the deal breaker for me would be though, no hardware keys, I can't stand virtual keyboards I have to have real buttons. Of course a lot of other people love the whole touchscreen thing, so it seems it's just personal preference.

Also remember, all of the Q models are non-touchscreen (running Windows Mobile Smartphone), while both the i760 and xv6900 have touchscreens (running Windows Mobile Professional).

I just logged on to Verizon's website this morning because I need to upgrade and am waiting on the arrival of these new models that were mentioned in the press release as coming out in April...the VX6900 is listed for sale on the website. Not sure if it's actually in stores yet. Didn't see the Q9c yet, though.

I watch movies on my phone all the time. Using PocketDIVXencoder you can resize and re encde the flick. normally an hour and a half film runs between 200-300MB. I think the picture quality and sound are great concidering the size of the device.
