If your company is running Exchange 2003 server connected to the web, e.g. for Outlook Web Access you can even wireless sync via the exchange server.

Yes, that is correct. As long as you have Exchange 2003 SP2, and an external port mapped to your mail server, you can do direct sync from the Q without needing to use VZW WirelessSync.

Maybe one of you guys will know -- I have tried to install the certificate from my desktop to my Q only to continue to be told that the security permissions are insufficient to allow me to install it. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help you can give on this.

Default deactivate wireless sync

How did you deactivate wireless sync? I find the advantages to using wireless sync very confusing to understand.

Default Push Help

I have set up my push account with Verizon. They do not have a option to push or pull just certain emails. This makes for a tremendous amount a spam being sent to my phone. Even if you sent the settings to just certain email addresses, once you get a message from one a those then all mail on the server is sent to you. Is this just their way of making sure you go over your usage plan. lol

All I need to be sent to my phone is messages from my contacts.
Any ideas guys?

The Verizon Q has 3 email modes:
Wireless Sync Exchange/outlook
Wireless Sync POP
Outlook Express POP

Wireless Sync has two modes: Exchange/Outlook Sync, and POP Sync. You can use these both at the same time. The Exchange Sync requires a PC Monitor on your computer that monitors your MS Exchange mailbox and instantly pushes the changes to your device. (I usually get emails on my device before I get them from Outlook in cached mode.) This is configured on wirelesssync.vzw.com. From that website you can also add POP accounts to have wireless sync check for you, at certain intervals. All emails using Wireless sync, whether they be from Exchange or from POP will be combined on your Q under the "Outlook Email" folder.

The other way to get POP mail is to set up the device itself to check a POP mailbox. You can do this by going into Outlook Express Portable (the email app on the Q) and going to menu > options > New account. The advantage of setting up a pop account in this manner is that it keeps the emails from this account separate from your main Outlook emails (I use Wireless Sync on my work computer, and use POP to check my personal mailbox.) On the welcome screen you will be able to distinguish which account has a new message. You can set this up to check every 10 minutes or longer, or to only check when you do a send/recieve.

i'm new here, so please be kind as i show my ignorance...

my office has an exchange server. is that, alone, is enough to give me push email on the device? i do not need to keep the computer at my desk constantly on to redirect, do i?

also, are the wireless sync POP accounts mentioned above sent to my phone from the website as soon as they arrive in my inbox there, sort of like Blackberry Internet Service? or, does my phone actually have to reach out to that website and poll every 10 mins or so?

if that is the case, is there a way to just run wireless sync and leave the scheduled 10 mins polling totally off? also, would it just be possible to get new emails by pushing "send/receive" and cancel off the mandatory 10 min email check??

any help would be appreciated!

I just have mine set on push and it automatically sends me my emails. I think if you use the timed interval option and set up the time it will only sync with the website but not push anything. You would then have to push send/recieve to get the email manually. Hopefully that works because that is the setting I had before I set it to push. I like it to just send me my emails and it doesn't eat battery.

no, it doesn't matter if your computer is on. It will still sync up over the internet

Depends. If you use the PC Monitor solution, then yes. You install the PC monitor software on the computer that will receive mail through Outlook. If you use the OTA Wireless Sync program on your Q, then no.
