Default Verizon vs ATT

Not sure where to post this... so feel free to move as necessary.

My contract will be up with Verizon in March of next year, yes I know theres a significant time frame there but Im wondering if anyone can give me some reason why or why I souldnt switch to ATT. Primarily the service for both companies are equally as good in my area. I know that Verizon bought Altell recently so at the beginning of the year things should be interesting for Verizon (who will take over the title of most users).

well Verizon's CS usually rates better. if that doesn't bother you and service is equally good for both in your area. go with the best price at the time.

Well, it comes to $$$.. If you like paying for things that otherwise are FREE on the other carriers, by all means stick with Verizon..

AT&T's 3G is faster and will get even faster.
AT&T's 3G allows voice AND data at the same time.
AT&T has a HUUUUGE selection of phones.. On Premier, it's like 30 pages worth of phones.

Verizon's 3G isn't as fast.
Verizon's 3G pauses data while you make a call.
verizon puts customized OS' on their phones which cripple free features such as OBEX/OPEX bluetooth transfers and GPS.
Verizon has a decent selection of phones.. if you dont mind paying 2-3x as much for them.

Verizon has better coverage and better CS in my opinion.
Are getting better phones. They don't have rollover minutes, but the prices are virtually the same now with data.
ATT budges with phone prices and verizon doesn't.
I love verizon's service so paying extra is worth it to me to stay with them.
Don't forget the carrier activation fee you will pay when you switch after your contract is up. I think ATT charges like 38.00 a phone.

this is a tough call. verizon cs is second to none and there service is amazing. most if my friends and family are verizon so that alone makes it worth it to stay. I have never had a bad experince with verizon. I only had att for a very short period of time but in that time dropped calls were mostly what I got.

Well, see one of the major concerns is not only CS (which ive used 2 times since ive owned my phone) but also coverage, as well as features and billing.

I love having unlimited data package, HOWEVER im honestly sick of dishing out 130$ every month for data, 400 daytime minutes, and unlimited texting. *its a long story why my bill is this high and im tired of trying to get VZ to lower it so I just pay the dang thing* So, if ATT has a lower pricing on unlimited data and more minutes then Im switching....altho now I keep eyeing the Napolean which may or may not come to att.

This is why you need a wife lol...jk two calls may not resolve an issue...
Your bill shouldnt be that high.

Been with ATT actually switched from them to VZW. ATT cs is a mess that has not changed from what I have heard. In my area coverage is spotty, every day driving to work my calls would drop.
I agree with Tony BOD (bag o donuts) that the pricing has never been an issue with VZW our bills are consistent, where ATT we had issues constantly I spend more time on he phone with ATT over billing issues than I care to admit.

Coverage is always dependent on where you are. Here people bail left and right to VZW it is a really good coverage area. Cant barely get a signal with the other carriers.

Ask folks in your area, they know what the coverage is like

FWIW, I've had three carriers over the past five years (att, vzw; now alltel) and have tested a number of phones for my work through different carriers, including sprint and att. I have been traveling a fair amount, mostly in the United States. In my experience, VZW's coverage was the best and ATT was the worst, especially in rural areas anywhere in the middle of the united states (writing you from West Texas at the moment). My experience with alltel is that it is slightly less reliable than VZW, but this could be a phone issue. I'm using Alltel now due to price, as VZW was most expensive. The two advantages to ATT were a better selection of devices and the ability to operate some of those phones overseas (my work's phones for "international" use are on att). If I had to do it again, I'd go back to VZW if not too much more expensive (and it looks like with the buyout of Alltel I'll get the chance).

Well, verizon just bought Alltel, so service should(being the opperative word) start picking up more. I agree that ATT has better phone selection no doubt, which was another thing I was considering. I just wish I could pay less for more service. ANother thing that would be interesting is if ATT offered a "trial period" (yes I know fat chance on that) or maybe a 1 year service agreement instead of the 2 year.
