[quote=sulster;215058]Ah, but did she say "Sure. With no penalty."?

I didn't clarify that, but I'm not too worried about that. Based on the other reports here regarding Exchange, I'm confident that if it works, I'm not going to get billed any extra. I was more concerned with it working or not working, and if it didn't work for me, if I could switch back.

For what its worth, I've read a few other reports that using PDANet on the 29.99 plan, there are some ports that are inaccessible, so you don't get the full functionality as if you were on the 44.99 plan.

My concern was that some ports might have been closed affecting exchange (although based on reports here, I wasn't terribly concerned). I also was worried it might affect other part of my plan that are grandfathered in (America's choice II family share and my SMS plan).

UDP 2883 is what is used for the Exchange ActiveSync on the Front End server and I've not had a problem using it. Also, ask yourself this... what is the definition of a Corporate Exchange Server vice a Personal Exchange Server. They are not blocking ports and they would have to be doing IP filtering to enable and disable this sort of a feature on each and every handset (the management cost would be crazy). What they mean by Corporate Exchange Server is that you can't use their crappy Wireless Sync service. You'll notice if you've downgraded your service from the unlimited/unrestricted that you no longer have access to their Wireless Sync web portal.

Still not sure why people arnt using internet connection sharing instead of PDA. Its built into WM6. I read a thread about it here and moved the lnk to my start menu but havent used it yet. Is there info Im missing about this not working on the 29.99 plan? As I understand it, VZ only sees the ip/mac of the phone because it acts as a router for the pc.... Guess I will be testing this soon.....

You're right ... this is what they said.

Terms and Conditions
The Email and Web for Smartphone Plan/Feature is designed for personal, consumer use and is not designed for use with some Internet email service offerings or Wireless Sync or Wireless Sync Enterprise Server, GoodTM Mobile Messaging, or Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. This plan/feature cannot be used to tether your device to laptops, personal computers or other devices for any purpose other than syncing of data; any other use is not permitted under this plan/feature. Microsoft Outlook, other compatible email protocol syncing requires cable connection. Smartphone users: when you use Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync® or NotifyLinkTM, or Intellisync's Intellisync Mobile Suite, every time you receive an email or other update, you may be charged for an incoming text message. To avoid text messaging charges, you can set up timed synchronization or manually initiate synchronization. Only available in the National Enhanced Services and Extended National Enhanced Services Rate and Coverage Areas.

The only thing clear about this is that you can not tether for other then syncing of data and it is not designed for Wireless Sync which is why folks no longer have access to it... everything else is between the lines and subject to interpretation.

It seems pretty clear to me that Microsoft Exchange Activesync is not allowed either.... or you get charged a text message? You're right--not that clear...

Current versions of exchange don't utilize text messages. It uses something similar to imap idle. Other services may use text messages for notification. Doesn't change the TOS or what is actually possible.

I never got the built in tethering to work when I was on the $44 plan but I didn't try very hard. I just did what the average user would have, and it didn't work, typical!
