I will have to ask the verizon reps next time I'm in there (I need a car charger anyway)... although I must admit that "data plans" are probably the worst topic to ask reps about, because all of them seem to have a different idea about how they work. I swear you can go to one store and get once answer, then go across the street to another and get something completely different.

either way... I've yet to test the tethering, so I don't know if it charges me. I'll install the software after work and give it a go.

Default A BIG Thanks!

I want to thank the people here for letting me know about the new data plan. I got my Q9C last week, and had gotten the $79.95 call/data/email plan, plus the $5/250 text message plan. By going to a basic call plan, adding the new data plan and the text messages, I got the same thing for $10/month less. I did it all online at My Verizon. It compared the new and old plan, and I only lost one minor feature I didn't know about and wouldn't use anyway, some sort of automatic synching of data. Otherwise, the two plans were exactly the same.

Thanks again.

Jon

As I have read from others on a different thread, I spoke to a CSR yesterday and they said you could sinc with an Exchange server with the $29.99 data plan. I wrote down her name and extension for when they decide to challenge me on it. She did not know about the lower price plan but when she researeched it she said no problem with using the exchange server with that plan so I don't know if they changed it or she just messed up. either way I am on the cheaper plan and am loving it!!

I was going off of one of these post and downloaded "wireless sync" there was a problem with my "wireless sync" account so the CSR transfered me to the **Tech support** for wireless sync and she confirmed NO EXCHANGE & NO WIRELESS SYNC with the $29.99 plan.

But she also said they cannot tell "regular data" from "exchange data" that's why most of us can still use exchange server with no problems. She also mentioned we were not supposed to go to any corperate websits (owa, share point) but could not tell me how they would know if we did or did not. Our Wireless sync account is maintained by vzw so I have no idea why, if you change to the lower plan it works for a little while then stops working .

**the tech support was definatly not the regular CSR's she had access to my 'wireless sync' account that the regular CSR's did not. She also had printed referance sheets that confirmed all the restrictions.

O.o.she was also very displeased with the false information givin by the CSR's. (AGAIN)

funny i got a CSR told me that you can use it and even noted in my account that he said i could...

well i guess it doesnt matter if verizon cant tell the difference in data vs. exchange data

The first csr told me the same thing "sure you can use wireless sync no problem, I'll note it on your account" she then couldnt figure why it would not work so she contacted the "2nd level support" and thats when I was informed it would not.

I agree, Im sure the official word is that Exchange on the lower plan is against the contract but that the billing system cant differentiate its traffic from regular data at this time. Before there was just one data plan right? Doesnt mean they wont check for it on a customer with high data usage though.....

Wireless sync looks like a different animal though. Ive never used it but it sounds like it was set up from the beginning as a pay for service and its usage is tracked by its software.
