It has internet, email and I think messaging right? But from what I read you are not able to add third party applications like you can on a windows mobile device. For example I have a few medical programs from skyscape on my Q. I wouldn't be able to use those on the 8830 right?

Yes, it has internet, email, IM'ing of all sorts; AOL, ICQ, Googlechat, blackberry chat etc etc. There are a few third party app's available, but not nearly to the extent of the Q. That's the big bonus of the Q, being windows based, you can put a huge variety of applications on it. I found that the only one that I really used a lot was the Sirius app. I also used the crap out of the pocket light, but that's available on the 8830 and is a ton brighter just because it uses the front screen instead of the flash, which it doesn't have.
One reason I bought the 8830 over the Q is because of a LACK of camera on it. My employer states no camera phones, and although I could get away with one as I have, I would like to be in compliance. I work in a high security environment and would hate to be called out on it. I know they are going to be checking soon since someone posted photos using a phone camera on the net of a project we're working on. Not in my office, but not far from it!

I wish I only paid $64.99 for my wife's Blackberry service. I pay $89.99 for the Unlimited Data with 500 minutes of air time, but it's Nation Wide. I also have My Circle.

I pay the same for my MOT Q service....$180.00 a month for 2 phones.

No other providers compare to my plan and all that I get. And the service is second to none....IMHO.

What's the My Circle?
I'm on the family plan with a total of 5 phones, one unlimited data plan (45.99 for my BlackBerry for local unlimited, I canceled the one on the Q that my wife now has) with a total of 1400 minutes and 3 lines with unlimited texting for a $179.73 per month charge. Of course that rate is before "Verizon Wireless' Surcharges and Other Charges " and "Taxes, Governmental Surcharges & Fees" which normally total about an additional $20.
