Default Upgrading you cell phone

Hi everyone,

I'm a VZW customer and have had a Motorola RAZR for over a year and am already experiencing battery issues. Due to my job I'm looking to upgrade my existing phone to a Q. Unfortunately, I'm not up for my new every 2 until March of 2008. HOWEVER.....

A co-worker of mine is a Sprint customer and wanted a Treo and purchased one off Ebay. She was able to call Sprint and TRANSFER her existing plan to the phone she purchased off Ebay. I called VZW to inquire if my new every 2 status would be void if I did the same and the rep I spoke with said no.

I'm looking at purchasing a Q off Amazon.com and transferring my existing plan over the the Q once it arrives. The only thing I'm hesitant about with purchasing a Q is I've read a lot of people have battery life issues. I've only had my RAZR over a year and already have had to replace the battery and it STILL won't hold a charge! Has anyone had similar issues with the Q?

PC Magazine rated the Q well and it seems to be a sleek little gem. Any information you can give me is greatly appreciated in helping me to make a decision.

Thanks!

B

Emphasize that you love Verizon, you're a long-term happy customer, blah, blah, blah. Good luck.

Same thing happened with me. My contract would not be up till October but I just got a new upgrade last friday Just like what Dan57 is saying, maybe it just depends on who you talk to. Goodluck

I dropped my camera phone and the camera got all messed up and the main screen has an inch crack right across it. I took to the VW store and their pretty nice enough to give me my upgrade right there and then even if I am not due for an upgrade for a couple of months.

I went to a VZW Corporate Store today to see about upgrading (I played it up like I wanted to switch to Sprint). I have the Motorola Razer V3C and hate it as the battery doesn't hold a charge after only having it for a year. I've replaced the battery twice already to no avail. Well, after not being acknowledged for half an hour someone FINALLY noticed me (that is after an employee walked right by me dusting off the damn phones!). National support bumped up my NE2 from March of '08 to January of '08. I found the Q online cheaper then what VZW's charges but they would only give me the Retail Price. Guess they don't care about keeping their long-time customers, huh?

After reading much reviews on the Q I'm worried that I'll get the same issues with the battery life I'm experiencing now with the V3C. Likewise, I'm also looking at the Treo 700wx, as well as the Blackberry 8830 to compare the Q to.

Should I try going back to VZW again to see if they'll give me my NE2 earlier, or call National Support again?

Thanks for the help!

is march 08 your 24 months of the current contract? You should be able now to get your ne2 credit 4 months early (20 months instead of 24). My 24 months was december 10th and I just got my ne2 last wed (aug 22nd) when I called to get my q9m, I called on the 10th and was elegible but waited for the 9m.
You can buy a new phone at any time at full price. You can sign up for a new contract a few months early now and get ne2 4 months early.

My original contract end date was March of '08 but it got bumped up to January of '08 after I called the National Support Center complaining about my RazrV3C battery life. I DON'T want to pay full retail price for the phone, but have seen prices online through sites like wirefly.com and letstalk.com that offer the Q for $99 with a new contract sign up. Do you think I'd be ablt to purchase the Q online through these sites? I've tried the Q in-store and like the feel of it, as well as the Treo 700 and the Blackberry 8703e. Will go to another store and try them out again to see which one I like again. As I stated before I've had my V3C for a little over a year and the battery is not holding a charge, I'm worried after reading the reviews I'll run into the same prob with the Q.

Thanks again for the help guys!

Well as to being able to buy it, its up to those sites to decide if they will sell it without a new plan or not, they make most of their profit off plans as i understand. If they will sell on it won't be at $99 since it won't be a new plan, thats usually a new customer discount so you'll probably get charged the $349 retail.
The NE2 you can do at 20 months that would make your elegible in december. Thats how I started my call, I simply asked when the rep answered if he was aware of the new 20 month ne2, if he wasn't I was just going to say ok and call back until I found someone.
My contract wasn't up until December so Aug was the 20 month mark for my NE2, so I got that off and agreed to a new two year and got some other discount so my invoice shows $349 marked down to $100. So if you can wait until December and get the NE2 and sign a new contract you can make out good.

Everyone's experience has been a bit different but I have found that going to the store itself seems to help. Manager's at the store have the ability to override the date of your discount provided it has been at least a year (I watched a CSR at the store call a manager from another store to get approval bc their manager was gone today). I have always been extended the discounted price after a year. I believe they will look at the money you spend monthly as well as any accessories purchased and make a judgement call. in fact that is how I got my first Q a year after having the Treo. the stores get credit for sales individually so they are incented to do this if you meet certain requirements (my family plan is over 200/month since I use my phone for work).
