If I were you, I would wait till the Q9M comes out. That way you get the newest phone (with a discount too).

Just wanted to thank everyone for their responses to his question! I've been running through this forum because I am thinking of upgrading to the new Q 9m when it comes out in the next few weeks.

My additional question is, are there any "magic" words or ways to question a CSR about upgrading early to get them to let me do it?

I'm in the exact same situation where I am not due for upgrade until next May (9 months!). I know, some people will ask me if I really, really need this phone, and the answer is yes! If you own a Q you know how great they are and my crummy Nokia just doesn't cut it anymore. I'm currently on a Family Share plan with 5 lines that we have had for almost 5 years. At the time that I (hopefully) upgrade, I will also be switching the plan from my dad's name to mine as I get an employee discount on the plan.

What can I say or do at this time to convince the CSR to allow me to upgrade w/o paying the full price of the phone? Can I complain about my current phone somehow to do so? I really can't say too many bad things about my Nokia except that the vibrate function has been killed from all my texting. I appreciate any direction someone can provide me! Thanks!

You should be able to upgrade phones at any time paying full price of course, I upgraded early before. November is that the end of your 24 months, they used to allow NE2 at 22 months but as of June it has been moved up to 20 months. Ask the CSR is they know about the 20 month ne2 policy, I called last week and asked the same thing and he said yep, i'm eligible. I'm waiting for the q9m now myself.

Thanks Eugene! I actually spoke with the corporate Verizon sales rep for my employer and looks like he will be able to get me an early upgrade. I'm 9 months out so I can't believe he is still able to get me that. I'm going to get in contact with him next Monday when (hopefully!) the Q9m is released and get one for myself! I have my fingers crossed until then!

I told my rep I would call him Monday morning as I've seen that as the rumored release date as well. He said he hasn't see anything saying then but will wait and see.
I found out my company discount went from 19% - 22% so I'll get a bigger break on the bill even.

Glad you guys bumped this thread so I could pipe in. I was with Verizon for over 20 years and really wanted a Q last year and kept begging for an early upgrade. After a continious stream of NO WAY, Sprint announced their Q in January so I called one last time to let them keep me but by then I also wanted help with the data pricing. Not a match to the $15, but help. Needless to say I am now a Sprint SERO customer and if I had a number of months left and wanted a Q, I would find a way to get a SERO $30 plan and run it concurrently till the end of my contract.

Do a little searching; Slickdeals.com and wirelessadvisor.com are a couple that have helped me.

What is the coverage like with Sprint. My MIL has tried I think every provider but verizon every few months and any time her and my wife are out someplace she has to use my wife's phone because hers can't get a signal. Verizon seems to be the only person that cares to give coverage outside the city.

I get about the same coverage as I did with VZ at my house. I know that alot of folks say VZ's the best but I live in the sticks and cycle between Home and Roam and when it roams it uses a VZ tower.

My personal opinion, based on absolutely no facts, is that most all the major carriers share alot of the same towers.

Although I do read that Sprint has better EVDO coverage.

For what it's worth, if you are a long time verizon customer, they tend to give you a little bit of a break. I was a few months away from my "New Every Two" upgrade and I called customer support, discussed the fact that for the difference in cost, they were making it very easy for me to justify the disconnect fee and move to Sprint to get a free smartphone.

They waived the new every two and the only thing I had to give up was the $50 mail-in rebate. I still received the $100 "online" discount. Sometimes it pays to be kind of an a-hole on the phone. They want to keep customers.

How early did they give the NE2, as of June this year they allow it 4 months early now.
My rep offered me an unpublished family share plan that was a little cheaper then the one on the web site as a "loyatly" discount since we don't use very much of our minutes. I'm actually considering taking that lower plan now and if the price difference is enough for one of the lower data planes considering getting it.
He sounded disapointed when i said I didn't want to go ahead and get the current Q and wait for the q9m Monday when I called him so hopefully he may have more to offer on the next call.
