I just had lunch with a few friends and tested this out. Turns out that texts sent to me from a standard handset cut off at 160 and then I get the message: "Preceding message was modified to comply with this handset. Media objects were removed." When getting texts from another smartphone they come in as multiple messages.

So, guess this is a limitation of the Q9m. Also, my friend's EnV tells him that the recipients phone (my Q9m) is not EMS capable and the message has been converted to plain text and sent, but I do not get the rest.

Hope this information helps clear things up.

I get the same messages from my wife's V and now her voyager. My mother's enV does this as well.
This also happens when they send a smiley etc.

Hi guys... I hate that i cant get more than 160 too... so i have been searching for ever.. and I found a fix maybe... off of this post It will take you to this site on how to enable EMS on the smart phone, you will need to download a reg editor. I used this one.Worked good...

Ok, I sent myself 200/320 and guess what! IT WORKED! It came in two split messages.

Here is the fix.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\SMS\TextShare d

This key contains a flag that specifies whether EMS processing is enabled on the device. EMS processing is disabled by default, however, you can enable this support yourself.
To enable EMS processing support:
  • Register the COM component's GUID by creating the following registry key, and giving it the following name/value pair.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\SMS\TextShare d"
    DWORD : EMSHandlerInstalled = 1

Does this really work? Could you please give more detailed instructions on how to use that program to add that registry key? Thanks

Default doesnt work

Im pretty sure this doesnt work

You can always send a over 160 char text message to your own number which is what i think he was saying he did.

I have had the opposite experience to be honest. When I had an LG Voyager on Verizon and I texted my girlfriend on ATT... it would cut the messages off... now that I have my Q, and I send her messages over 160 characters, it splits them up.

so far I've never had any problem with it. It splits all the messages perfectly... I've tested this with my friends on T-Mobile, ATT, Sprint, and even someone on Cricket... it works

I have gotten that message though... and oddly enough it sent it to me while texting other people on Verizon. I've only gotten like 2 of these though, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Default Verizon is full of it.

First of all, hello all. Been following this site for quite a while and have gotton tons of helpful information. Thanks for all of that.

My problem started about two weeks ago.

I was able to receive long texts, split up from my wife's krazr and a friend's tmobile sidekick(?).

All of a sudden my phone is incapable according to Verizon.

They said it was never possible before. I must have been shrooming good the last four months then.

I get the first half, then the dreaded "Media objects removed" message.

Has anybody discovered a real fix for this yet?

- John

Update: It seems Verizon is in the process of finally standardizing their voicemail and text system. In the past some folks would have this "problem/feature" some wouldn't, depending in what area you were in. It appears it was my area's turn to move onto the new system.

You will need a reg editor to do the hkey as well as perform any hacks on the Q

You would think that Verizon/Motorola could release an EMS program for Windows Mobile that would allow us to use the new standard. Anyway, I originally posted this in another forum:

I have the original Q and I've had this problems for a very long time now, It used to work at one time and then seemed to have stopped receiving multiple txt msgs from Verizon handsets.

I call tech support last night and asked him to refresh my data settings and he did. He then asked if there was any specific problem he could help with. I told him my scenario.

VZW Smartphone -> VZW Smartphone = multiple txt come through
VZW Handset -> VZW Smartphone = 1 txt msg and then the rest is cut off

My brother works for AT&T so I can verify this too.
ATT Smartphone -> VZW Smartphone = multiple txt come through
ATT Handset -> VZW Smartphone = multiple txt come through

I told him I know my phone isn't EMS capable, he then cut in and said yeah you just want to get multiple messages sent to your phone. He put me on hold and said he was going to go grab a handset to do a test.

When he came back on the line he said you're right. He had tested it and got the same problem on his personal Q9m. He didn't know this was even a problem and was determined to find a solution because it affects him too.

Anyway, I was on the phone with him for about an hour. I mentioned maybe there's a EMS->SMS setting . He tried everything and then put me on hold to go talk to his supervisor to see if there was a way around this. When he came back he said it's a network problems. I give credit to this guy for trying everything he could. I could tell I bummed him out because he was just as frustrated as me.
