so unless you have the Q9m you cant send over 160 characters

Well then i guess my black Q is special. I receive txt messages that have more than 160 characters regularly. Both my ex-wife and new girlfriend like to send me novel length txt messages when they are pissed. The q can easily send messages over 160 characters also. open a new text message and just start typing you will see the character count at the bottom, go over 160 characters and watch the counter for each 160 characters it will change and say 161/320 (2 messages) and if you go over 320 characters it will break it in to 3 messages and so on.

I don't get it because mine will send them just fine. It will break them up into separate messages when the other person receives them. But I get some message about "The message has been modified in order to comply with this headset." ?

I have no problem getting messages over 160 characters on my Q9m, they get broken into multiple messages.

is this carrier specific? Has anyone take a survey if it's just Verizon or Sprint or <<insert evil corporate entity here>> ?? I've always been able to do multiple text (at least 4-5 years ago), but I'm also on the other side of the hemisphere so who knows.

sorry, i wasnt clear. with the original q you can not send or recieve a message over 160 characters without it breaking it up in multiple messages because it does not support EMS like the Q9m does (for Verizon). stinks.

I get this all the time from my wife's V and now her voyager.
Supposedly, the q9m doesn't support enhanced messaging, even though the specs say it does.

so i called verizon twice cuz i thought it was kinda crappy that i paid this much for a phone that didn't allow me to recieve multiple txt messages.

Call 1: The girl didn't know what i was talking about, but she asked a tech who said that anytihng over 160 must be sent as an email.

Call 2: This lady has definitely heard this complaint before. She was like, no, you can't do that. You can send, but can't receive. I asked her is this was going to be fixed in the future, she said no, not on verizon. So, it would seem that the problem is not related to the phone, which technically supports EMS, but rather to verizon, which, in an effort to make you pay for the extended message as a data file not just as a txt message, has apparently disabled EMS on the moto q9m.

Kinda pisses me off, but ill just have to make people send me the rest of the message after 160 characters.

But what really confuses me is why i can send EMS's but not recieve them.... Sounds strange. Any other input on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I find this hard to understand. I have some friends that send me long texts, well over the standard 160. I get multiple texts from them that I can tell have been broken up into 160 character messages. So, how come other people with the same phone as me are not able to receive texts over 160 characters? Do you want the entire message in one text? Or are you not getting the other texts after the initial 160 characters?

i dont get it split up at all.... it just cuts it off and sends me a message that the preceding message has been modified to comply with the handset. I wouldn't mind it if it got split up into 2 or 3 messages, but instead i have to txt the person back and ask them to repeat w/e it was that they said. luckily a few of my friends know that and split up the messages before sending it. But I have no idea why it would work for you and not for me. You do have verizon right? idk, i got the phone about a week ago and its the only thing that bothers me about the phone.
