anyone want to post their mms/ sms settings so we can make sure its all the same?
Mine are apparently wrong.

Okay half hour later and I am on my fourth tech to get provisioning checked.
They added a smartphone broadband feature then had me do *228. Apparently its still not working.

after they added the broadband feature, it updated my phone's programming.
I think they are grasping at straws.
Also, can anyone receive a standard text message with a smile in it? .
It keeps getting rejected when my wife sends one.

I got the same answer. But look at this on the specs of the Q. It says it does support EMS. http://www.mobiledia.com/phones/motorola/q9m.html

Yeah. I looked at other sites and they don't mention ems at all. Maybe its capable, but crippled (surprise) on verizon's network?

UPDATE: Just finished with VZW, it seems that it was an issue with the "provisioning" on my account. The problem is fixed. If you have this problem also, you have to call them and have them make sure that everything is set correctly for EMS (see above posts for what this is) for your phone and account.

john1_83 - So you can now receive messages over 160 characters? I've been looking for a solution to this FOREVER being an avid texter. If you did there is still hope!
