Default Phone warranty

Is the extra phone warranty that I and many people pay worth it?

Currently paying $5.90 a month and a $50 deductible if and when.

Why couldn't I, let's say my phone dies or I lose it, just get a new phone at the discounted rate and sign another 2 year contract?...instead of throwing $70 a year out the window?

The silver Q is gonna be very close to being FREE after a year anyways...hell I got mine free back in Dec after rebate and 2 yr contract being up.

Just looking at some options from people in the know.

Trent

i got the same warranty, but like you, I'm not sure if it's cost-effective than just buying a new phone (should the Q die during the 2 year contract)?

Just thinking out loud:
1. We're paying roughly $6 a month x 12 months in a year x 2 year contract = $144 over the life of a 2 year contract

2. Should you have to invoke the warranty within the 2 year contract, it's a $50 deductible. Does anyone know if you can get a new phone on the spot or do you have to wait a couple weeks to get it in the mail and fill out paperwork?

3. If you DO NOT buy the insurance, any repairs / replacements within the 2 year contract is out of pocket, right? That means buying a new phone at the full retail price?

4. OR is better to just save that $144 in insurance over the life of the 2 year contract and put it towards a new phone (should you need to replace / repair it) only when you really need it? And if you DO buy a new phone, doesn't VZW automatically make you renew your 2 year contract?

First, insurance is NOT a warranty. The warranty covers a defective device. If it stops working, the waranty replaces it within the waranty period (one year?).
Insurance is for things like lost, stolen, or accidental dismemberment of equipment. One does not replace, or extend the other--they are different things.

You can't just get another phone at the discounted price by extending your contract. If that was the case, you could get a new phone every week by extending your contract.

The current retail price for a Q is $420. Do the math to determine if it's worth it for you. 6 * 24 + 50 = 194. The most you would pay using insurance is $194. Replacing your Q by purchasing retail is $420.

That's clear as day. I'm keeping the insurance for the 2 year contract just to have piece of mind.
