| Not allowed just voice anymore I'm pretty mad. I wanted to get a Q from Verizon, as they're just plain awesome. I just wanted to use it as a phone, and as some other people have done here before, call Verizon and order the phone and a family plan. They told me no.
Apparently VW doesn't allow users to get the Q without a data plan now. I'm totally mad, and this has gotten me to steer away from Verizon entirely. If they don't oblige, I'm changing to Cingular, or I should say, stay with Cingular. I've never had any problems with Cingular, in fact, it's time for a renewal, and I might just keep the phones.
I wanted to change, as I don't get GSM service AT ALL in my neck of the woods, but I've caught word of a unicel building on the top of the cell site in town. That means that in the near future, Cell service for me! I can't wait... but it's only sitting there collecting dust right now... at $85.00 a month!!!
Any suggestions to make them change their minds? |

| If I were to just cancel, would I be charged a whole lot of money, like when you cancel a voice plan. Has anyone else done this successfully, without charges? |

| I actually just upgraded to a Q at Verizon this afternoon and I had to purchase the unlimited data plan for $44.99 (I'm already part of a family plan). The rep said that you could not buy the Q without it. Maybe it's a new policy? I asked her why and she said the phone automatically syncs with email, etc and then you would be charged hundreds of dollars which they would not refund you for. I really don't know if that is true.
I kind of feel like I want to call and see if I can cancel it. Has anyone done this successfully? |

| Surely the Q won't automatically sync with email if you never tell it what email to sync with, right? |

I even asked them if they could sell it without, and lock it like others have said they do... and came up with the same answer. Maybe Verizon WANTS me to go get the iPhone. |

I mean, I've never owned one (as Verizon won't let me do so cheaply), but it's common sense, right? I think that as long as you are careful with your habits, and somehow put a lock in the phone, than you'd be golden. |

| I bought my phone off of ebay and called customer service to activate it. The lady told me the same thing, I needed a data plan to activate the phone, but she put me on a 'pay-as-you-go' data plan which means if I don't use the net, I don't get charged for it. I recommend asking about that. I love the phone as well and just got it for its scheduling capabilities and stuff, not for the internet (yet). |

| I think I'm sticking with AT&T (Cingular). I just found out that Unicel is putting a receiver setup on the local tower, which was my primary concern to switch providers. Now that I have a timetable set up which will let me know that I'm actually GETTING service, I'm going to stay. I mean, I have 5000 rollover minutes, and really don't want to lose them, even though they expire in a year, I still would like a surplus if I needed it.
Any thoughts on the iPhone? I'm thinking of upgrading, but I haven't heard a lot of [good] reviews on it. |
