I purchased by Q off of craigslist after doing some research. You can have Smart Phone and not subscribe to a data plan. They put you on the pay as you go plan, but if you don't use it, they don't charge you. If you get a Blackberry phone, you have to subscribe to the minimum data plan no mater what. I am in the process of trying to lock the data portion on my Q, as I don't want internet access 99% of the time. This is with Verizon.

I use my Q just as a phone and I have my data blocked so going online is completely impossible for me. It says unable to login or something when you launch IE and all is good. It's definitely possible just call enough times to where you get someone who knows what they are talking about.

From what I've read on another forum you can put the data block on through the my account on Verizon's web site.
