Default New 20MB/$20 data plan from VZW!

I just got off the phone with Verizon Wireless customer service. I wanted to switch from the unlimited plan to the 10MB plan, but the service rep told me "Hey, wait a minute, we have this new $20 20MB smartphone/PDA plan". So needless to say I chose that over the $25 10MB plan.

Just wanted to let all of you know that this is available.

If you do, can you post back here and let us know if you're successfull? I just heard from someone on qusers.com that they tried and didn't get it...

I just got off the phone with Verizon and the 20mb data plan is for national access. From what they told me was not the broadband speed. It is $39.99. The 10mb plan is $29.99 and that is the broadband speed. Of course there is the unlimited plan for $44.99 at the broadband speed. So I guess as of right now I will still be one of the (few) ppl w/out the data plan on my Q.

Red,

I think you're right about the "National Access" plan. I just noticed that my network indicator now always shows 1x when before it showed EV.
For my purposes 1x will be enough 90% of the time so I might actually stick with this plan.

Sorry to get your hopes up guys...

My Q always shows 1X and I have a unlimited data plan. What is this EV you speak of?

Also when I connect to My Yahoo or MSN it loads slower than an old computer with a 33k modem. Am I supposed to have broadband with my unlimited data plan? If so should it be close to the speed of my computer on DSL?

in major metro areas, you can reiceive data via EVDO, or high speed data access. If you are not in such an area, you get 1X which is dial up speeds and you speed greatly depends on signal strength.

That's absolutely correct.

I dug into it some more today. Turns out that my Q still uses EVDO when it's actually available. For some reason there was no EVDO signal today at my office location and usually there is one. That's why I had "1X" displayed all day until I cam home.

I also called VZW again. They said that the Q will always look for EVDO first and only use the 1x if that's the only option. So this plan is still high-speed. In fact "My Account" page lists it as "EVDO Allowance 20MB".
I have no idea what else to tell you folks aside from the fact that I somehow ended up with this plan.
