Default Moto Q - Service Charges? Internet Charges?

I was previously interested in a Blackberry 8830.
I talk edto the verizon sales representative, and he states that it costs $44 dollars a month just to /have/ the service.

I'm not interested in paying that, hence, I went looking for other phones and found the Moto Q.

For the Moto Q - Is there any 'service charges'?
And, Is it possible that I remove the internet from my phone?
I have a laptop, I don't need it on my phone. :x

Thank you in advance.

I have the Moto Q as well and I asked the same question. I guess this was me being smart with the verizon rep. But when asked the first time they told me I could not use the phone as I had to have a data plan tacked on to my exsisting plan. So that was 69.99+9.99+10.00+10.00+44.99=144.97+ tax and gov't fee which I was willing to pay. So I asked them if I could go without that 44.99 data plan charge and the rep told me no, I could use this smart phone as a reg phone. Well after calling back (being frustrated I hung up) and speaking to someone with since I was told I could use the pay as you go data plan. Thats what I got its supposed to be 0.15/kbps, but due to the fact that I have a DSL connection at home and a T1 line at work I have them block data usage on the phone. Hope this helps!

Yes it is and also picture messaging. If you block data it blocks mms as well.
If you don't set up an account or download programs that use data, you will be fine.

so are you saying that if you go with the pay as you go plan, it additionally charges you for all text and picture messages? As well, if you get a data plan, do you not need a text messaging plan?

.. Interesting.

I was under the impression that text message goes by what your text message plan is and pictures are an additional charge.

I send close to 13,000 text messages a month - however, I have unlimited. :X
In other words - I'm in the same boat as you, haha.

!thought - Hm. Well. In that case. It's really not that much more expensive.
I pay the $20 for unlimited texting now, and, if I cancel that and get the service charge, that's only $25 more than what i pay now. (45-20).

Here is how it works, if you get the pay as you go plan and block data usage it only blocks mms, so if you have the unlimited plan where you can send and recieve unlimitied text and pix to anyone on the verizonwireless calling plan plus 500 txt anyone not on the verizon plan; If you block data usage you cant send or recieve pix messages. But you can recieve and send txt messages.

Ah. Now, I don't mean to sound redundant.

Now, say I don't block data transfers - Will I be charged for pix messages? Or, will go under my unlimited txt/pix verizon plan? :X

Sorry, I'm just a tad confused about the whole thing.

If you get a pix message then yes you will be charged. I know it makes no sense but you now are holding a smartphone its in a whole different league of its own. So the fact the you have the unlimited text pix and flix means nothing now, because your pix and flix are considered data.
