How "fresh" was your Q when you bought it?

I bought my Q from a Verizon store this past week. When I got home, I noticed the label on the box was dated 9/25/06 - that's 6 months ago.

The label inside the battery compartment says "Model:Q H/W A" and "Date code: 3606". If that means the 37th week of 2006, that would be September '06, with is in alignment with the date on the box label.

The "About" screen shows:
Radio version Q2-BP_C_06.07.03P,Q2 Portable
RIL Version 2.000
OS 5.1.195 (Build 14960.2.4.0)

How "fresh" was your Q when you got it? Are they just selling through very slowly, or did Verizon dust off an old unit from the back?

And is there any concrete reason to believe that newer units have any improvements over older ones?

2006 on mine. I ordered it the day it was available to the business channel (3/31/06, I think) and got a replacement a couple of weeks later. I've had that one ever since.

I'm guessing that means the 46th week of 2006. So November 2006. This should correspond to the date encoding in the alpha characters at the end of the serial number.

By the way, most stores in my area have silver Qs from almost the exact same timeframe as mine (August/September '06). So if you want a relatively "fresh" Q here, you have to buy a black Q.
