Question Having trouble charging silver Q

I just was given my Q from a friend. They went to the VZW store and exchanged it via warrenty service, so I know the Q is new, as well as has the latest software update. I also purchased a new extended OEM battery a week or so ago and a motorola OEM charger.

I am having limited sucess charging my Q. Sometimes I plug it in, it works fine, and I get the charge complete message in the morning. Other times, when I plug it in I do not get any audible notice, but I do get the battery icon to change to illustrate it is on AC power. However when I take it off the charger in the am, I do not get any charge, and it seems as if the Q has simply remained in the charge state that it was in before being plugged in.

Any ideas what I can do to ensure that my Q is actually charging and not just sitting on AC power? Thanks in advance!

well it has come to my attention after replacing 4 silver q's that there is a major problem with the silver q! vzw finally sent me a brand new black on (its just sweet like black velvet!)
if your a new customer with vzw and have had the phone for less than a year, they will replace it free of charge with a reconditioned one! but if you continue to have problems with the silver q, keep calling them and let them send you a new one, after the 3rd exchange, they will send you a brand new one in the box, and you can request a black one!!!

the silver q just sucks and the black one rocks! dont ask me why, but it does

besides your personal experience how can you back up this -in my eyes false- statement. i have had a silver Q for ~9 months with zero issues, and i am not the only one.

I had the same exact problem for so long with my silver Q. I tried the extended battery thing and tried charging it in the car. I was going into the store weekly, if not daily, and they would always want to try to charge it themselves for 20 minutes which was a pain. They would give me a new charger and replace my phone with a reconditioned phone. I am now on my 6th silver Q and they still won't give me a new phone. After the software update several months ago it has gotten better but I'm still not fully happy. I am by no means a power user. I've only used about 350 minutes this billing cycle and 300kb. No bluetooth usage either.

Like you said, some days it charges fine but other days you wake up with a dead phone that has been on the charger all night. You can try to get a new phone but my store is hellbent on throwing those reconditioned ones out like they're burning holes in their cabinets.

The black Moto Q does the same thing. My wife & I have one and have trouble charging both of them. Brand new out of the box.

I have also had a problem charging my silver Q. When I go to bed, I leave the Q plugged into the computer all night. I remove it when I go to work, then plug it back into my laptop. It usually stays charged, but sometimes goes dead while on the USB cable for no apparent reason...

I have a black Q on the way from Verizon due to an ActiveSync issue (see post in Windows section). I'll reply after a couple days with that one.

I had a black one and was having the same problem, i used both my regular batery and extended and multiple chargers and outlets...SAME THING...I actually just recieved a refurb. from verizon today. I have heard of this happening to many people and i asked the lady but she said that she hadn heard of it before and it was probably just a bad charging bank. (it would happen intermitently for me).

I didn't get a black Q . I'm going to do what I've been doing and just keep the thing on charge through my PC. If it still drains too quick, I'll keep complaining till I get a Q9h or m or whatever

I'm not sure if this is a problem with the Q, or the Mini USB connection as a design. My wife went was onto her third LG Chocolate with charging problem until she switched to a VX8300. The Chocolate had a Mini USB connector and it frequently had charging issues.

I've had a few issues with my Q, but have cleaned the USB connection (charger and Q) with a minute bit of rubbing alcohol and it begins connecting like it was brand new. A month or so later, same issue. Give it a bit of a try and see if it improves yours.

Remember, take your battery out, and use the Alcohol Sparingly. The Alcohol will evaporate, so either blow into the port, or wave the Q around, to dry it out.

Wow...didn't think of that. Thanks! I'll try using a "Q" tip
