Exclamation Has anyone "ACTUALLY" tried free WAP?

I keep reading of people that assume that the free WAP will not work, but has anyone actually set the proxy connections/settings to connect to a free WAP? If someone has tried it let me know if it worked or not, please don't just tell me you think it wont work, I want someone who has actually tried. If no one has tried will someone let me know where to change the proxy/cennection settings so that I may try it.

I have tried it.

It does not work. You will still be able to get online however there will still be data traveling across the network and that is what you pay for so there really is no FREE wap. Data is data and bam....billed.

Thanks for the reply, that was fast. Do you think the data plan is worth the money? I am constantly on line doing something, whether it is checking e-mails, reading news, surfing forums, etc. I currently have my e-mails loaded on the phone every time I get to my laptop and sync it, it seems to work fine for now. I guess the question would be, if the Q is suitable for surfing the web.

Handsdown amazing! The Q is the first device I have used that is almost a duplicate of an desktop/laptop. The proportions and rendering of pages is very close to accurate if not accurate.

I strongly recommend it on the data plan. Get your email wirelessly and also backup your contacts and your calendar. Plus use it as a modem if you want.

Sounds good, I am currently on a family plan, and getting the pay per use data "plan" I will give VZW a call and see if they have any "special rates" for the premier accounts (I get the employee discounts, hope that counts for something), I hate to think that my monthly bill will be about $110+ tax ( I would want the unlimited data plan).

Thanks for your help Adam.

Hi everybody! First time poster, long time lurker! I'm using a Verizon MotoQ flashed to Cricket. I'm still trying to set up WAP and I can't figure out how to change the proxy, username and password. I found a registry key (HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{EF097F4C-DC4B-4c98-8FF6-AEF805DC0E8E}\VZW Browser) that looks like what I need to change, but it doesn't seem to work. How did you go about changing these settings when you tried free WAP? Is there a keycode (##whatever) for this?

Thanks for the quick reply!
I don't have that option. I can get as far as Connections, but the only options I have there are Beam and VPN.

This is exactly why I now have two lines -- one $9.99 w/ a data block on it and one $30.00 for 500/min and unlimited data.... two cellphones, but saves me bundles (especially when I can fully drop VZW and move my wife over to Sprint)
