Default Going to Cozumel

I have a Q 9m.

I called Verizon and they said that I would not be able to make calls from Cozumel, although I could receive them. Cost was .85 per minute. Does this sound right?

Thanks,
Steve

Edit: I corrected to .85 per minute, which is what she told me.

I went to the Bahamas last month and it seems like there it was around $1.75 or so but the real kicker was the cruise. On the boat you can make calls but you get charged from both the boat and Verizon. All together it is around $4.00-$5.00 per minute. Needless to say I did not make any phone calls. I did ask that they turned my data off so I would not get any charges for that but I did get a text message (happened to from Verizon) while I was on the boat. I think it was around $.25-$.50

I've found that on or near a cruise ship it's best to turn the radio off. When in China last year I waited till downtown to make a call, because if I picked the signal from the ship it would cost 5 times the price.

That weird because I found when I was on the boat my signal was great (full bars) until we got into port and then my signal would die until I was more out in the open. Almost like they turned their signal off when we got into port.

You're right they are supposed to shut it down so you can use the local signal and costs, but their Internet Guy told me they don't always do that.
