As for the comment about the 5 GB limit and that Verizon would drop anyone who goes over....
First of all, if you only knew how fricking hard it is to even get to 2 GBs of usage in a month, then you'd know that it isn't really too much of a concern.
Secondly, I seriously doubt that Verizon would give up anyones monthly payments just because...That would be basically idiotic of them if they did so.

This 'You'll get dropped if you go over the 5 GB limit' almost amounts to urban myth. So doubt 86mcss or I need to be concerned at all.
It is really easy to go over the 5GB limit if you stream a lot. People who tether and watch video on their laptops and people who sling should be careful. I have read post in other forums of people who have gotten drop. And, engagdet just posted a story about people who got dropped for over use. According to the article, Verizon got sued or something for false advertising (limiting their unlimited plan). They had to pay up and make they fine print about the 5 GB limit a little bigger.

I got the "warning", but never got "dropped", so your sentiment is correct.

I used to tether HARD for about a month, downloading/uploading and watching video via my laptop (tethered to my Q)... Verizon sent the goon letter, but they never cut me loose

I'd be one of those guys that would sue Verizon over this...at the very least report them to the state attorney general for false advertisement.

Just the fact that it says... 'UNLIMITED data plan' says it all. No fine print can explain the differences of 'unlimited' to '5 GB limit'. That is two completely different meanings. And I know the courts will see it that way also.

well i am canceling my home internet and just using my phone and tethering to my laptop. i use the internet enough at work that i will not need to use it to much at home. so hopefully this 5gb limit wont affect me at all.

here is a good questions...

when im tethering to my laptop..can my phone still receive calls or text messages? can i answer a call or reply to text messages if it can still receive them?

Yes you can still get phone calls and text messages, however your email won't work while using the phone as a modem. If you answer the phone it will interrupt the internet connection. Text messages won't though.

I haven't had any problems whatsoever with PDANet. Speeds are atleast as good as when I had the VZW $15 tethering connection. And Verizon doesn't seem to have a clue I'm tethering now....or they could careless...lol

As for accessing eMail while tethered, why not use internet access to your eMail accounts??...
I didn't set one up with Verizon Wireless, but I think that you can still access your Verizon eMails thru the internet as well, no?

I've never had any problems with pdaNet either..

You can still receive calls and texts while tethered.. As a matter of fact, you can receive email also (I had a Mail2Web account set up on my Q in PocketOutlook)...

Only deal is, once the call comes through, it'll drop the internet connection... atleast mine did...

it wasn't a big deal, because you probably want to answer the call anyhow....

pdaNet DOES offer a feature that blocks calls from coming in while you're connected, but I like my calls... LOL
