Most people probably aren't paying $45 a month for broadband Internet at home. (I know -- you're paying a premium for both Verizon's network and for mobile data access in general, but it's still too much. I'm paying it, but I wish it were more like $20 or $25 for unlimited data.)
Your right they did have a service for 19.99 a month with voice and 29.99 a month stand-a-lone.

However you are right it was NO WHERE near 3g. I sold it along with all carriers awhile ago. Yeah it is nice but when you are taking the service 100% mobile wouldn't you want EV-DO or BBA or some kind? Hence why you are paying $45/month.

That is what was polled from customers as the most reasonable price out of those offered before. As regards the constant complaint of EVERYONE thinking $45 is too much....no one is forcing anyone to pay for or use the service. And on that note if people are going to use it and pay the 45, as we all are paying, then please stop complaining it isn't lowering the price or helping us out any on these forums.

Side note, and do NOT quote me on this to any reps as this is mere speculation, maybe though the price of unlimited will come down now that AT&T are starting their marketing blitz with regards to BBA/Wirless and Wireland service. They are trying to make BBA lower for everyone. This MAY make Unlimited access for everyone cheaper to be more competitive, but this is only my speculation. Plus it helps that Denny Strigl the -former- CEO of Verizon Wireless is now the COO of Verizon as of yesterday but sitting on both board of directors. This may also mean that bundle packs for TV home and mobile phones under the Verizon brand name and bye-bye Vodafone.....HOWEVER THESE ARE JUST MY SPECULATIONS.

Yes, I want EV-DO, but I want it cheaper. I don't expect it to be free, but I expect it to be reasonable and I don't really think $45 is. (Of course, I'm speaking as a consumer here; I haven't seen Veriizon's cost to build out the EV-DO network.)

Also, what about people who only have 1xRTT service? If they ask for unlimited data, I bet Verizon happily charges them $45, too.

What poll was that? If it asked, "What is a fair price -- $45 per month, $60 per month, $80 per month, etc.?" then I'm not surprised that $45 was chosen.

Come on, sometimes complaining makes us feel good.

And, while nobody can obviously force a data plan on you, I have heard stories about reps saying they couldn't sell the Q without one. So a gullible consumer might be "forced" into paying for one. Of course, that is just as likely due to poor training of the reps as it is to reps trying to boost their commission (if they get paid by commission).

Complaining feels great.... But everyone complains about it...and then goes on paying.

They polled back before it was set price what was still profittable what would be too much, etc...just as all companies do.

Still @ 1XRTT the KB charge is the same so you are back to Unlimited data again. That relates to the transfer speed....NOT the amount of data. You are just at 1/3-1/4 of the speed but 100megs@1XRTT is still 100megs@EV-DO.

I agree with this to a point -- Under that same logic, 100 MB @ 5/2Mbps DSL and 100MB @ 312/128kbps are the same... but VZ charges significantly different prices for those two services. For those of us that live in "fringe" areas wehre EvDO is not offered and 1x reigns supreme, we still pay $45/month. Granted, we can move, but it seems to me VZW could offer a $25/month 1x only service for those that only use it for light sufing and e-mail checking... it's not like the speed of EvDO can be used on the VZW network according to their TOS anyway... how many people really care if it takes 1.5 seconds or 3 seconds to download that e-mail (you know... because none of stream music/video or use DUN) if it would save them $20/month/$240/yr?

Okay... so I'm one of those complainers.... but maybe that's because I have to pay $45/month for something I stole-for-free from my LGVX10/6100/5400/V...

Exactly -- people pay for speed. Also, Verizon's 1xRTT network was rolled out years ago, so it may have had a chance to pay for itself by now.

Agreed...I'll kick off an email to see what regional manager says. I scored right few times so now I have his ear and the ear of the assistant to the PNW Regional President.

I won't be able to back up a single thing because it will be "heresay" and not backed up so that if dates move can't be held liable, but I'll see what I hear.

I've been a VZW customer for about years now. I have learned one very important thing...anything you make a change (new phone, new feature, new line, changing a plan) always double check with customer service a few days after you make the change. Frequently, there are mistakes make when the original transaction is made. Mistakes happen. From experience, VZW has always been helpful in making the corrections without penalty.
