Question Exactly How Big Is 5 Gig ???

I'm hoping that the cerebrally gifted, tech oriented types of the forum (and I mean that in a reverent manner) can help me out. I've read about the Verizon Wireless 5 Gig limit and I'm wondering just how much 5 Gigs is.

Currently I like to listen to XM on my Q...circa 30 mins per day tops. I was thinking of getting a Sling box to watch a MLB game or two when I'm stuck with family or at work. I also wanted to tether my Q to my laptop until my building is WiFi-ed.

That being said, is a 5 GB limit likely to preclude me from undertaking such activities?

If there was a formula that would be helpful...such as
5 Gigs is = to x amount of hours streaming XM
or
5 Gigs is = to x amount of hours of sling box usage.
Also, is there any software out there that will monitor your (bandwith?) usage of a month?

Thanx so much. Best -Z-

not sure about the bandwith converter but if you go to your verizon account online it shows you how many KBs you have used so far...

Yeah, your account at Verizon will tell you how much data you are using via your phone. Just log in. Usually it is about a 5 day lag.

When tethering, the Verizon Access Manager will let you know how much data you are using. I used about 1G last month. Of course that is with basic surfing, chat rooms, IMs, emails, streaming of video clips and a few free software programs. When I had comcast modem I would stream Sirius about 20 hours a week. According to Verizon, an hour of streaming can run you about 100MB or in my case 2GB a week or 8BG a month alone. So needless to say I do not stream Sirius on my pc anymore .

But 5GB is alot if not streaming. Just watch your data...

Music or Audio

I s/w Verizon abot monitoring DATA usage.

They said it's free to check by dialing #DATA & hitting send.
I got a text message with more information than I ever wanted to know about my current, monthly usage.

Was the data usage stats up-to-date? Or how up-to-date were they? 5 days?

Stealth, it all depends on the size of your Q.
