When you dial #DATA it gives you your kilobyte usage. below is the conversion. i use a TON of data, i and constantly on the internet, using google maps, windows live search, etc. anything that uses data, i use. my cycle starts on the first of the month and my kilobyte usage so far this month is 231,551.59. i am still 817,025 kb away from 1 gig, let alone 5 gig. hope this helps anyone who may be concerned with KB usage.

1 gigabytes = 1048576 kilobyte
5 gigabytes = 5242880 kilobyte

Does Verizon consider 5 gb 5*2^20 kilobytes, OR 5000 kilobytes? Based on the $.002 / .002 cents debacle, I would be scared to test that 237/243 MB's (depending on your definition) as that would total up to a lofty $485.76/$4.85 (depending on your definition)

How in the heck do you dial #data on the Q? The # is no problem. D shows up as 5. 'A' shows up as *. I can't even type T and have it register.

The thing is, you can use the web browser practically forever and not reach 5GB. What eats it up is streaming and file downloads. People that have Slingbox, or Orb, or are using Sirius, XM, or other music/video streaming sources are the ones that are going to break the 5GB barrier if they are not careful.

I'm about to get a Q (hence my discovery today of this good looking dedicated forum) so I've been looking into all of this.

This is a nice forum. The beast known as howardforums is a mighty source, but it's so convoluted with so much info it's crazy.

Music or Audio The Verizon 5 Gb Limit X Kilobytes = Y Gigabytes

Hey Gang,

While the answers on this thread were helpful, they also cold be compared to the answer of the age old question "How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop"

That is until now. Now we can stream XM & Slingbox on our Q's with relative certainty of how close we have come fatally pissing Verizon off & then enduring their wrath. One of our fellow community members sent me a link to a site that will help the mathamatically challenged (such as I) convert kilobytes (the measrement used in the data usage report Verizon sends you in the form of a text message when you dial #DATA & hit send) to Gigabytes. This way you can see how close you really are to approaching the dreaded 5 Gigabyte limit and the consequences thereof which are fast becoming the stuff of urban legends. Enjoy! -Z-

SHOUT OUT TO BLINDSOUP WHO E-MAILED ME THE LINK! THANX BUDDY!!!

I've had my new "unlimited" data plan for about a week now... just tried #data for the first time and it said I had NO usage. I suppose that's just a temporary thing... I used google maps, a bit of SiriusWM5 and a bit of Orb as well. I guess eventually it will start tracking.
