Default Does Blocking Internet Block Txt too?

I'm in the market for a new phone and from what I've looked at I'm leaning towards the Q. I don't want the internet service at this time but I can utilize pretty much all of the PDA's other features. The rep at VW told me that I can block the data xfer option but by doing that I will also block the ability to get txt messages. I've run through the forum looking for a topic that confirms this but I didn't see one. I don't want a 1000 bill because the phone decides it wants to connect to the internet all by itself if I go with the pay as you go. Can anyone tell me from experience if there is a way I can get txt messages while the data packages are blocked? Thanks!

Hi,

I have the data block option on my cellphone. It doesn't block text messages; infact, I have a text messaging plan with Verizon. Just be aware that it will notify you if someone sends you a PIX message, and you will have to open it online (http://www.vzwpix.com). However, this is a good thing, too, because it's completely free! You won't get charged for opening a PIX message on your cellphone, because...you can't!

HTH, take care,

Depending on which service plan you have, you may or may not be able to send/receive pix messages without being charged. I have the UNLIMITED messaging plan that does include UNLIMITED pix messages to those who are "IN."

The data block does not affect TXT or PIX messaging. Again, depending on your plan.

I cancelled my data package and asked for the net block. It DOES block PIX messages because they use data to transfer the pix to the phone. When you have a 'normal' phone (my wife has the RZR) she can send PIX becuase that uses minutes to send the pix instead of data. Reasoning makes no sense, but that is VZW for you.

I do recieve txt messages and send with no problems.

You better check with VZW for your answer. That is my suggestion.

IF PIX messaging is dependent on data, then how can my wife and son send PIX without the data plan.

Default confirm the block

when i got my Q last month, i requested a data block as advised in forums like this one thinking that it wouldn't effect text messaging as so many had testified. i typically receive 2-3 texts a month but after a month went by with no text messages i thought it odd but didn't think anything of it. it was only this weekend i learned of my true data block status when my cousin asked me whether i received her text message earlier in the week because i almost always respond to my messages by another text or call. so i texted her then and there and it was apparent that she didn't receive anything from me and my Q didn't show that i had sent it.

so i contacted VZW and the rep told me that my data block status was blocking everything... internet, MMS, AND SMS - even though i have text messaging in my plan. so per my request, he opened it up for me to receive text messages without any hassles and now its working.

so make sure that when you request a data block that you confirm with the rep that you still want to text.

You can send pix without a data plan. As long as your data isn't blocked. It just cost about 3 bucks a pop. Now as far as your wife goes. Keep in mind that the Q works differently from most phones. It uses Data not Minutes like most of you typical cell phones.

Txt and pix have nothing to do with data or taking away your minutes. You just need to add a txt/pix plan or you will be charged. Txt are going up to 15 cents without a plan. Pix cost more.

If you have data blocked you CAN NOT send data. An MMS/Picture is DATA.
