Default Data Rates and Usage Question

I committed to buying a Q and I'm getting it tomorrow. I currently have a small Nokia 6315i and use the dumb browser that comes with that. I just found out that I have to pay SOO much more just for the lowest data plan (10mb). Well I'm real worried that 10mb won't be enough and I REFUSE to pay the unlimited rate.

Is there any way to conserve Kb's when normally browsing the web. I realize I should stay away from huge sites like CNN.com, but are there any tricks or anything that I should know about it?

Verizon does not have unlimited anymore, that is now 5Gb per month. the only thing i think you can do is turn off the images so it won't load those, and only turn it on when watching por.. i mean when you wanna see images :}

not a whole lot else you can do...

10 Meg a month is NUTS. One web page with images is about 3/4 meg. So 12-15 web pages will pretty much eat it, throw in some email on top maybe a few MMS pix and it's money-sink city after that in kilobyte charges. You get your first $500/mo overage bill and the monthly UNL/5G whatever fee will seem like a STEAL.

I read somewhere that some chick (way to go, girl!!) racked up $1100+ monthly charges on her parent's accounts for SMS texting alone

So I would stay away from a "minimalist" data plan but sure I know verizon is expensive but as tempted as I am to look at cheaper alternatives, I keep hearing so many horror stories about network reliability and service issues.

You can also browse the web though a service like Skweezer. It compresses the pages and strips out unneeded stuff.
www.skweezer.net

Also, something like Opera Mini would help. It uses a server to strip, compress, reformat, etc., and serves the compressed pages to your device. It might even run on your Nokia.

10 Mb is NOT a lot.
