Default Data Plan Options?

I received my new Moto Q that I purchased through ebay a couple days ago. This is my first PDA phone and I have never used data of any kind on a phone. But with my growing love of gadgets, I just couldn't resist this.

However, in my one conversation with a Verizon rep so far about activating the phone I've been a bit disappointed.

Is it true the only data plan really worth having if you plan to use much of the wireless data access on the phone is a $50 unlimited package? I will do so if this is the case but I know others with the Q under different service providers who seem to think this is more than I should need to pay as I do not need to use the phone as modem or anything of that nature.

I'm very familiar with Sprint's data plan pricing and I know you can get unlimited access on the Q for only $15 per month. So the cost through Verizon was a bit of a shock. I just wonder if the rep I spoke with was not aware of all the options or unintentionally misrepresented something. I want to make an informed choice, even though I can change later.

Does anyone here have a bit more experience/knowledge of the data plans available for the Q from Verizon (particularly if I don't want to start a new contract...that's why I purchased from ebay)?

unfortunately the unlimited (5gig) data plan is 44 bucks......i think you can do a pay as you go but if your going to surf the net and get emails then your bill will be so much higher....

I was just looking over my statement for the Blackberry and found this

BLACKBERRY BROADBND UNL $44.99

I'm thinkin' I got 'em! I'm hoping she made a mistake by telling me it was 64.99. I'll let you know as soon as I get it.
But you're right, I better be traveling my arse off to get my monies worth on that!

From what I now understand, that is the price for the global unlimited. However if you don't leave the states, you can pay the normal 44.99 or whatever it is for the local unlimited! *Sigh of relief*.

She just sent me an email asking me to call her back about my order (you would think she could call me! whatever). Now I'm wondering if I'll be able to get the phone at all before the 28th. **retracted sigh of relief**

I'm on the 10mb plan for 24.99 a month. Rep said the overage is $0.15 per mb but I bet she wished she claimed per kb. Anyway, two months in, I haven't gone over. If you like google maps or surfing sites with pictures get the UL plan. If you want to be able to check your email fairly regularly, send emails and surf primarily text-based sites (I read a lot of news and politico blog stuff) you'll be pretty well covered by the $25 plan. Hope this helps enjoy and,

have a great weekend!

Here's a new one! They didn't/couldn't process my order because they had to "change my billing code". What does that mean? She says they were changing the location codes of a lot of customers and mine hadn't been done yet. In order to do that they had to delay my order. Anyway, they are now shipping the phone on monday and I should have it tuesday by noon.
I made sure to ask if that changing of the code was going to be the changing of my billing! She says everything would stay the same, it's just a location code. I've never heard of that before, but k!

But to stay on topic! I did ask about the difference in the unlimited plans and she did say I could switch between US Unlimited for 44.99 and global for 64.99 at anytime and for as many times.
