Default $$$$$$$ Data Package

This may sound like a silly question, but my contract is up this month and I am going to upgrade my phone and want to get a new Q9 when they are released. My only second thought is the data package price. Does anyone know if the Data packages will be going down to be competitive with Sprint?

I have no definite answers, just my opinions (for what that's worth). The Q9 is a GSM device, so forget about using it on VZW (I assume you're referring to VZW's offerings). There has never been any indication of the data pricing going down--I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen. ;)

yeah, rates will never go down, they'll just stay same or slowly go up, but with higher speeds / more capacity.

Default data plan

send an email to Verizon letting them know that their data plan is too expensive and that you might switch...

I did and was told that management only acted on issues when they have multiple complaints.... it can't hurt

There's no competition. Sprint is the network to be on if you have a Q. I paid the vzw cancellation fee to jump ship. Since your contract is up it'a a no-brainer. Just think how pleasant it will be to get voice/data for same/cheaper than vzw voice only. 450 min. +unl. data vzw=$79.95-$85, 450-500 min. + unl. data sprint=$30-$55.

This is not good advice. How can you tell someone 3,000 miles away from you which network is best for them? You sound like a commercial!

Always go with the carrier that provides the best service where you want/need it the most. After you figure that out, then choose from the devices that carrier offers--they all offer nice ones now.

Actualy it is good advice. Im trying to save him the vzw headache and $$$ every month. If you live in a major metropolitan area. Vzw and sprint are the same and roam on each others towers. Though cingular/at&t will soon dominate the airwaves and be the only one to offer Q9. If you want a Q it's VZW or Sprint. I'm speaking from experience with all 4 major carriers and showing him how to save 50% or more off vzw rippoff rates. Don't be mad cuz they are sucking you dry with they're $40-45 a month data charge, whie I'll enjoy 500 min. voice and data for $30. Any consumer can see this is overpricing for not-so-broadband like evdo.

Did I mention VZW anywhere in my post? No, I suggested the OP go with the carrier offering the best coverage. I don't presume to know all for everyone.

But since you mentioned it, you speak from experience in SD, CA, not nation wide. Bring a Cingular phone to my neighborhood and it's a paper weight. Bring a Sprint phone and it might work. The only ones that will work all the time are VZW and Alltel. I know that because I live here. Would I go with cheaper if I could? Sure. I take my own advice and use the carrier that gives me the best service. Why would choose one that does less?

I said major metropolitan areas. No you did not say vzw. I could just tell. Why would I choose one that does less? because it is the better of the two that offer the Q. Bro if sprint works in your town which it probably will. Sign up for the sero plan it is a better overall value. Same coverage.

Ok, lets assume that "does less" means it's the better of the two--a stretch for me, but I'm willing to take it for this excersize. I went to the Sprint Web site and I selected a Q, but could not find "Sero" anywhere. I did see Power Vision Access Pack for $15 per month. Definitely a good price for unlimited data. What is Sero?

I did not find a voice plan to match mine. The closest family plan I saw was $110 for 700 minutes shared between four lines. I currently have 1,000 minutes for $110 shared between four lines with VZW. N&W do start at 7 with Sprint, mine start at 9. The rest of the features are similar.
So I would spend more for voice with Sprint, less for data. Overall less with my two unlimited data plans on Sprint.

You're right about the data pricing. However, that doesn't make coverage appear where it isn't. My point here (I realize it's hidden) is that I'm not disputing pricing, just your general advise that "Sprint's the best." If the coverage was as solid, WHERE I LIVE, I would consider them. The simple fact here is that it's not.

I'm happy for you that Sprint works well for you, your data plan is cheaper than mine. In my area, the 800mhz carriers have the advantage (Alltel and VZW). All the others are 1900mhz and do not do well in my area. Be happy for me that VZW works well for me and that you can revel in the fact that you pay less than I do. Happy coverage...
