It wasn't bad at all, didn't have to charge it for a few days on standby. Surfing the internet, games and other apps will drain the battery like crazy.

| I went from the Treo650 which I loved to the silver Q. I loved the slim Q and also the added feature of broadband internet. But one word of caution (which may or may not apply to the Treo700w): The Q is quirky. This forum and QUsers.com are full of people having all kinds of little (or big, depending on your point of view) problems. Batteries not holding charges, Q's that turn themselves off, Q's that need big firmware updates, etc. My suggestion is that you need to be pretty tech savvy and also have a high tolerance for messing around with gadgets to be happy with the Q. I am on my THIRD Q in 2 months. The first was a silver that randomly turned itself off. The second was a silver that stopped holding a charge and then wouldn't even charge at all. Finally, I got the black one and so far, it has been 3 weeks and no major problems. I have it fully customized, listen to streaming Sirius radio, have gotten a Seidio extended battery, and am just thrilled at all I can do. I did have a minor issue two weeks ago with it not connecting when I connected the charger, but other people have the same issue. My work around is to plug in the charger, turn off the device, turn it back on, and ever since I have begun doing this, I haven't had a problem. I came up with this goofy process when I read on this forum that the owner's manual recommends charging the device with it turned off. Who on EARTH would do this? I have to leave my phone on 24/7 since I own a business and my cell is who the alarm company calls if there is a fire or break in. Keep in mind that each of my prior two Q's were all tricked out and it was a real pain when they went bad and I had to reload all the software and redo the registry hacks. I was to the point of giving up. But now I'm glad I didn't. I would never get another silver Q, but it seems like the black ones were manufactured later and are a little less problematic, but this is just my opinion. Obviously they are making both silver and black Q's, but my worry was that a silver Q could be left over from an older batch, whereas the black ones are guaranteed to be manufactured more recently. Also, my business partner went through the same stuff and he has a black one now too and he seems to be problem free too. Although I miss the touch screen of the Treo, the additional stuff more than makes up for it. GoToMyPC has a mobile version to let you access your home computer from your Windows Mobile devices. I also have accessed my corporate webmail from my Q and it works great. I have email on my phone of course, but accessing webmail from my Q lets me see the public calendars too. Sorry to be so long winded, but wanted to give you the good, bad and ugly IMHO. Hope it helps. |

The black Q comes with the MOL2 update already installed. Be aware that the MOL2 update wipes out EVERYTHING, so have all your app and data backed up before you do it. It also takes about 20 minutes, but give yourself at least an hour or two so that once you get the update installed, you can then reinstall all your apps and settings and registry hacks. The battery life is so much better after the MOL2. In addition, I got the Seidio 2100 mAh extended battery. Don't waste your money on the Motorola extended battery. I can go all day with lots of calls, email being pushed every 10 minutes, playing poker over lunch, about 20 IM's, reading email when on the road, and I still have plenty of battery left over now. Before the Seidio, I was having to put the phone on the car charger just to get home without it dying and that was with the extended battery. Tomorrow I'm going to try listening to Sirius AND doing all my normal stuff and seeing how much battery I have left at the end of the day. Also, over the weekends, when I use the phone much less, I don't even charge it Friday or Saturday night anymore and still have charge left Sunday night when I finally remember to plug it in again. The Seidio is way better than the Motorola battery. And the cover for the Motorola extended batter works for the Seidio too. |

Don't know if there are steps to do this on your own, seems like I saw it posted somewhere, but can't find it now. I have the Motorola extended battery and it is very good. |

Makes me very uneasy about updating again, without taking it to Verizon. |
