Default Canceling VZW contract...

My children want iPhones for Christmas. Is there any painless way to get out without paying $275?

Tell them to wait.

I had the 1st gen Q from VZW and got out of the termination fee a few months back due to the increase of text messaging from 10 cents per to 15 cents (I didn't have a text package, so this affected me.) Basically, I told them that this was a serious, and adverse problem for me, and according to my customer agreement, I could therefore cancel without penalty of a termination fee.

I've seen this before, where every so often the fine print on your bill will give you an out. The situation I am talking about can be found on your (or at least my) February '07 bill.

You also gotta weigh out when their contracts will expire, however. It might be best to drop the rate plan down and let the contract run out. Sure they can't keep their same number, but hey, they're getting an iPhone.

Of course, and now I'm just rambling, I had the choice between the iPhone and the Q9h, and I'm writing on this forum, so... It was a no-brainer.

You got lucky because it wasn't a change to your base plan. Txt messages according to verizon are added features which can be removed or added to your plan without penalty.

That's exactly why I was able to cancel- because I wasn't subscribed to a messaging package. Meaning that the change affected the rates I was being charged, which fell under VZW's "Right to make changes". But nonetheless, I did get lucky I qualified, since I was just looking for an out anyways.

My overall point, though, is that things like this occassionally will arise with a cell phone agreement, and you should just keep your eyes open if you want out! Otherwise, drop the $175 per line and then the $400 each for an iPhone... or again, just tell 'em to wait.

Check out http://celltradeusa.com/ You can post your phone and plan on the website (for a small fee). Someone comes along and likes your phone and plan and they and you contact your carrier and they switch it into their name. Supposed to be a easy process. Good luck.

there's a website like that called swapalease for cars.
Bit of irony....verizon store won't give my brother a new BB8830. His razr died, c/s noted on his account to give hime the new every two discount, etc. plus an extra fifty off for his troubles and the store won't do it. So his company said we will pay your etf and get you a BB through them.

I have been told that because of a recent law suit, VZW no longer charges $175 flat free automatically for canceling your service and that fee is prorated according to the amount of time left in your contract.

To bad you don't have Sprint, you could just call five times a day for a week and they'd drop you.
