Default Can you still get a Q with no data?

I've been told a different story depending on who I ask whether its a Verizon store or the online help. Some say I can get a Q with only a txt plan, some say I need data, some say I can not get data but I will be charged every 5 minutes when it updates email. Anyone have a good definate answer?

I don't think any one person can give a definite answer unless they work with Verizon -- and even they don't always know as you've found out.

However, the thing about being charged every 5 minutes is likely garbage. First, if you don't set up E-mail, how would it check? Second, E-mail can only be checked every 15 minutes at most (unless WM 6 has changed or you're using push).

Try asking for a data block.

You can get a Q as just a phone, with no data plan. Think of it as a phone with a great TXT message keyboard. You'll not have the email function, or the web surfing.

Talk with the sales rep, and explain that you like the Q, but have no need for a data plan. If he tells you there must be a data plan for txt messages, he's lying. Tell him you just want the phone and the minutes.

edit: I've spent a bit of time looking about the verizon website, and it does not appear that you can order one through the site, without a plan. I've a friend who owns a verizon store, and he verified that you can get one, without a data plan. You'll end up paying more, as the discount for a two year plan involves using the data plan. No data plan = Less of a discount.

Even when you call you still have to have a data plan, so what you need to do is get the pay as you go plan then add the data block or do the regedit for the password protected evdo connection to prevent using it.

I bought the Q9M online and didn't have to have a data plan. That is the reason why I got the phone. \
I can tell you that you will still have to have data coverage to send MMS messages...and they charge you data airtime to do so. It works out to be less than 1 cent per MMS. Also, since data is not "disabled" on the phone, you can still access email and IE, but you will have to pay per KB.

That is the data plan, pay per KB is pay as you go, so you do have a data plan.

The post before you said "if you have no data plan". I'm saying you can't have no data plan, you have to have a data plan to get the phone. What you describe as having no data plan is actually having the pay as you go data plan.
