Default Q With No Data Plan

Some people may want a PDA and phone in one device. The Q isn't quite as good a PDA as a Pocket PC, but it's small and has a nice form factor.

Plus, Verizon charges too much for data, IMHO.

PCs were very useful even before the Internet became popular. You can manage your calendar, contacts and to-do list, do word processing, spreadsheets, photo manipulation, video editing, play games, etc. Internet access is great, but computers (and PDAs) are still very useful without it.

I'm not sure what that first sentence means, but Verizon's data plan is $40-$45 per month (plus another $15 if you want to tether). I don't consider that cheap.

Technology costs money, for me it is worth it...for others it isn't. However, I've heard that AT&T has some of the highest charges.

Technology doesn't always cost you money. How much do you pay to use Google, for example?

I have the unlimited data plan, too, but I'm still not sure whether it's worth it or not. But the Q is still a decent PDA and phone without Internet access.

I had a Q with data blocked and Verizon customer services helped me configure it as a non-camera phone so that when someone sent me an MMS I would get a message saying "someone has sent you a picture message..." so I could go online an get the message. After a tragic accident involving a toilet, I had to get a replacement phone from insurance company and while I was waiting for it to arrive I switched my number over to an old regular phone. When new Q came, I tried to get Verizon to set up like previous but was told that it is "impossible" to set up a camera phone as text-only and that my account shows that it was "never set up that way". So now, when someone sends me an MMS, I have to delete it pronto so that it doesn't lock up when trying to download.

I used to create a bogus connection on my prior device which was a treo.
I wonder if the same could be done with the Q. Data costs are through the roof.
I think these devices are completely worth the investment without data. I need a calendar and full contact application, so any sort of smartphone is the way to go for me. I am thinking of doing the data block, as I have the 10mb as a precautionary measure for the 9m.

I had no problem contacting a customer service rep last night and having her cancel my data plan and put a data block on my account. Well actually at first she told me I couldn't and then I explained that I was specifically told for my phone that I could and that only the Blackberries absolutely required a plan. She put me on hold, checked with her manager, and came back and said I was correct.

Check your account and see if she did remove data or just put it to pay as you go and a block.

I see the Data Block under my features, but don't see any type of data plan at all.

I look at it like this, I have the internet at home, why should I have to pay a second time just to use it on the Q, does you ISP charge you per computer, or do you pay once and then share it in the whole house?

I have the data plan with my Q from Verizon. It's absolutley wonderful because if I can't get Wi-Fi access I can always use PDANet (Rocks BTW) and connect to the internet.
PDANet is a one time charge and has unlimited usage. I also have the opinion of why have something if you're not going to use all the functions? It's like using a coffee pot to make hot water and not coffee .
