Avoid Data usage - Motorola Q Forum

Hi, How do I avoid data usage? I don't want/need the dataplan on the Q and want to avoid any charges from Verizon on data access.

I blocked all the options in my account, but accidently went to IE and it was sitting on the Verizon home screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet, is to call the Verizon Customer service and they can put a block on all data. That way, if data does come through, it's their fault and you can't get charged for it.

doubt it...i had a "nice" long talk with a vz rep the other day about how data is the same, be it a pic message or net usage, data is data and it cant recognize the difference....that being said, it sees mms as a pic message as just that due to the coding and how its being sent, or received, not both. say you go on the net on your q, well the request has to be sent, and then the data is recieved...mms is a one way operation

so with my unlimited VZW to VZW pictures included in my messaging plan, i actually am paying for my "free vzw to vzw" pictures because of the Q being a smartphone...?

it shouldn't be, unless you are sending via email. Perhaps a confermation emaill from verizon rep regarding that ? would be helpful

could be helpful although i could never prove data was being used compared to picture data, considering it is a "smartphone".

smartphones can connect as they please to get "updates and whatnot", is what i am being told by reps trying to talk me into a data plan.............

well, there needs to be a request to connect...if your running a weather program on your phone, then it will do it based on what the program says, same with an rss feeder...so like with a pic message, the request has to be from some end....
