Default almost no Verizon signal in downtown DC

Hi everyone,

I changed from an old Nokia phone with T-Mobile (with a great signal everywhere except for the subway) to the Motorola Q with Verizon a few months. I liked the way it looked, that it worked on the subway, and the "nation's most reliable network" (or something like that).

My signal strength really stinks; I'm now two feet from the window on my ground floor condo and I don't even have *one* bar. Sometimes in my condo I'll get two bars, but that's all. At work, I'll get two bars max. Ironically, in the subway, sometimes I'll have full reception.

Any thoughts? Is there software that I need to "update" to make sure I'm getting all signals? Could this just be a Motorola Q thing, or perhaps a Verizon thing?

Thanks,

Kelly

signal on a subway is pretty damn good but i would think not ordinary! as for low signal strength in your home, i had the same problem with my parents home. anywhere around the outside of the house perfect signal, but once you stepped inside forget about it.
so it could just be the area or something interfering with it in your condo. i dont think its a matter of updating any software...sorry to say.

it's probably a verizon thing / location of the nearest tower in relation to your condo (even where your particular condo is facing in relation to the nearest tower).

I had the same problem in my last apartment. Really bad service within our complex, but walk outside or leave the complex and we got 4 bars. Things cleared up the last year in that apartment. I got 4 bars in my apt / everywhere in the complex and I heard after the fact that a new tower got put up nearby.

As others have stated, it's most likely a "dead spot" where you live. However, it's always possible there is a problem on a nearby tower. You might want to call VZW customer service to let them know.

I was right near the White House for about a year recently, and could rarely get a signal with Cingular. I switched to Verizon, and it was slightly better, but there are lots of dead spots in NW DC.
