| 5GB Data Plan limit So I was doing some long and hard thinking about Verizon's data plan coverage and see if there are any loopholes with it. From readthing their fine print, they state that they will CANCEL an account if 5GBs of data is used through their EV-DO service due to "improper" use. So I was thinking......would they charge us an early termination fee if they cancel our account because we go over the 5GB limit? If they dont.......then damnnnn!! That means we can buy a phone at a new activation fee and then have our accounts cancelled if we go over the limit?!?! |

| i am guessing they will try and slap a fee on you... as i think they should. i see it as fair usage. and obviously if you really look for loopholes to screw someone -even if it is a company- you will probably almost always find something...

| they don't cancel the account, just the data feature, and they don't consider that grounds to waive the early termination fee since they can claim you will fully violated the terms of service. |

| Is this in a per month basis? I'm reviewing how much time I spend through PDAnet, and how it might affect my account. In all reality, I'd have to download 1.2 gigs a day to meet that criteria. Doesn't make me too concerned, but if that is annually, I'm well up the creek now.
Is this information on the verizon website, or just in the contract?
And yes, as techguru noted, Verizon will cancel your account and you'll not get out easily from the early termination fee. |

| You can actually find it online and at any Verizon wireless store. From what I am reading, they can terminate an account if the data plan is "abused."
Data Plans and Features (such as NationalAccess, BroadbandAccess, GlobalAccess, Push to Talk, and certain VZEmail services) may ONLY be used with wireless devices for the following purposes: (i) Internet browsing; (ii) email; and (iii) intranet access (including access to corporate intranets, email, and individual productivity applications like customer relationship management, sales force, and field service automation). The Data Plans and Features MAY NOT be used for any other purpose. Examples of prohibited uses include, without limitation, the following: (i) continuous uploading, downloading or streaming of audio or video programming or games; (ii) server devices or host computer applications, including, but not limited to, Web camera posts or broadcasts, automatic data feeds, automated machine-to-machine connections or peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing; or (iii) as a substitute or backup for private lines or dedicated data connections. This means, by way of example only, that checking email, surfing the Internet, downloading legally acquired songs, and/or visiting corporate intranets is permitted, but downloading movies using P2P file sharing services and/or redirecting television signals for viewing on laptops is prohibited. A person engaged in prohibited uses, continuously for one hour, could typically use 100 to 200 MBs, or, if engaged in prohibited uses for 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, could use more than 5 GBs in a month.
For individual use only and not for resale. We reserve the right to protect our network from harm, which may impact legitimate data flows. We reserve the right to limit throughput or amount of data transferred, and to deny or terminate service, without notice, to anyone we believe is using an Data Plan or Feature in any manner prohibited above or whose usage adversely impacts our network or service levels. Anyone using more than 5 GB per line in a given month is presumed to be using the service in a manner prohibited above, and we reserve the right to immediately terminate the service of any such person without notice. We also reserve the right to terminate service upon expiration of Customer Agreement term. |

There is an entire thread somewhere on here about this topic. One of the posters here used to work for Verizon and got a hold of the list of those over the limit. They were all companies not individuals. So he went about trying to see how he could break the limit.
It isn't easy to do in normal use.

I don't even know if I could get to 5GB if I tried. I use it alot . . emails (40/day), hour browsing per day, and PDANet a few hours a week and I was at 1.5 MB for the month. I suppose if you use your phone as your ONLY online access you could be in trouble but if you have internet at work/home you would have to really try to hit that limit. Wireless networks are not YET meant to replace your standard internet
