Default USCC Q Updates Time Change Correctly

Just a quick note to point out that my USCC Moto Q displayed a message this morning that it had updated the time due to time change.

Mine as well.

Sorry if I'm coming off as rude, but is there a point to this?

Default Well, here's a problem with USCC, Q and Time change

I received that message a few days ago too. However, I have spent all morning trying to get my US Cellular Q to hold on to the correct time. I've downloaded and installed all the patches etc. as outlined here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...g/default.mspx

The problem is that I am in the Central Time Zone, but every so often (and so far I cannot figure out what the interval or precipitating event is), my phone resets itself to Mountain Time Zone and sets everything back one hour ...not just the stated time on the phone, but also my calendar appointments are moved back (so that a 3:00 pm appt. is changed to say it starts at 2:00 pm). I also noticed that all the Birthdays in my calendar were moved back a day (so a birthday set on the 16th shows as being on the 15th). I have gone through and tried to correct everything several times, but then "boom"...Mountain Time starts up again and the appts change...I am very frustrated.

Shell

More Info: I have found that if I go to settings, more, more, Phone Settings, Clock and Time Zone and set "clock update" to Manual. It will hold the correct time. But, if you have to remove the battery, the clock/date will reset to Jan 1, 2003. I have also found that when the phone resets itself to the Mountain Time zone, it is not resetting the actual time displayed, but resetting all my appt. in the calendar. So that when I go to start, settings, clock and alarm, to reset the Time Zone, when I switch Back to Central time...it bumps the clock ahead an hour to the wrong time (but right Zone), but corrects my calendar appt. back to the correct time.

I called a local US Cell store and the agent said to set that area to Automatic, but when I do...I immediately start having the reset to Mountain Time issue again. I am still unable to determine what is causing it. It is not a time interval as it has happened within 5 minutes of correcting it...and it has held for as long a half an hour before reverting to Mountain time. It seems like it happens faster when I'm actively using the phone - just checking through the menus, etc, than when I leave it alone.

I know this is all very confusing to try to explain...imagine how frustrated I am trying to nail down what all is going on!

Yet more info: This will be my final description ;) So...I have Outlook set to the right time zone (central), time, all appointments correct...that never changes. I sync with the Q. All is well. Within 15 minutes the Q just suddenly changes to Mountain time...I know this because the appointment on the home screen suddenly changes time, BUT, the main "clock" on the home screen doesn't change - still reads Central time. I sync again with Outlook. Then the main "clock" changes to Mountain time. Then I can go in and change the time zone on the Q to Central time and both the clock and the appt. will change to the right times. But within about 15 min ...the whole cycle starts again. This is bad. Yes, it can be circumvented by setting the Q to manual rather than automatic sensing of the correct time and zone, but I shouldn't have to. I still think it's USCC sending my Q the wrong time zone info. I have done the *228 code to make sure I'm using my local tower. There is a problem that goes deeper. Okay...I'm done. Will be curious to see if anybody else experiences anything like this.

Default Works here

OK, I looked at one of our test Q devices. On this one, we're also in Central time. Go to Settings/Clock & Alarm/Date and Time. Time is set correctly, and time zone is GMT -6 Central US. It's been correct now for three days (I did a Master Reset on it as I was helping a customer, and manually reverified these settings then.

I hadn't looked at the manual/auto settings, but I went and looked just now. Clock Update is Automatic, and Time Zone Update is manual.

It's working here. What about there?

The only thing I found to work (for the time being) was to set the Clock on Automatic, but leave the Time Zone Update on manual. (Access these settings at Settings->More->More->Phone Settings->Clock & Time Zone

I have no idea what will happen with these settings when we go back on DST next spring. If the clock is automatically sensing the right time via some signal over the air - then what's the Time Zone Update business about at all?? Perhaps, I'll need to put the clock back to manual and have the battery problem for half the year?

Anyway, at least for the time being, if I do need to remove my battery, the clock/calendar will re-establish itself.

As to why this is happening...I'm wondering, since U.S. Cellular did not begin selling the Q until very recently, that perhaps the USC Moto Q software was already updated with the new DST info, so that when I installed the "required updates", I actually "doubled up" somehow. Perhaps that doesn't make sense...

Let me know if you find any more definitive answers...

Because the dates for daylight savings time beginning/ending changed, the Windows Mobile software is supposedly erroneous. Complete information can be found here:

oh thanks for the info. but i have done the automatic update by goin to the phones settings and clciking clock and time zone and have them both set to automatic. has anyone found any beneficial things bout the q offer by uscc? i found out how to use the modem link offer on the phone and uscc said it able to be used because their towers dont support it. i just downloaded the driver from this website http://developer.motorola.com/docsto...et_USB_Driver/
and then i connect the q with the modem link activated. and then went to set up network. then selected set up dail up connection. then put #777 in the dial up phone number. i works okay. its not the fastest or the slowest. but its enough some people can manage for. has anyone found a way to send mms through uscc? i know people found a way for sprint. And any new updates on when uscc is gettin edvo. I kinda hoping soon. And hopefully in the kansas area so i could have access to the edvo. but hopefully they have it everywhere.

WHEW! A few questions in one post. Our network hasn't been configured to support the usage, not as a function, but the bandwidth tethered usage allows is the issue. Until we're sure we can support that level of bandwidth, modem usage is a violation of TOS and will be treated accordingly when it's discovered.

The Q doesn't do MMS. Period. But there *is* a workaround: email. If you send an email with a picture to another phone by using <phonenumber>@mms.uscc.net, that other phone will receive the picture as MMS. Whomever is using MMS, however, has to send the picture to whatever email address you're using on the Q. You get it as an email with the picture attached.

Don't hold your breath on EV-DO.
