Default Problem with getting service with Ebay Moto Q

I bought a Moto Q off Ebay, it was listed as an US Cellular compatible phone. I got it activated and it works well other than the fact I pretty much have no service anywhere. In places where I usually have full bars I have 0 to 1 bar. I took it in yesterday to US Cellular (they were closed for renovation, but a guy helped me for a few mins) the guy told me that since it wasn't issued by them it might be searching for towers whoever issued it. I'm going to go back in tonight, but was wondering if anyone from here has heard of this before?

Thanks man, yeah that's what I'm confused about. If it's made for US Cellular shouldn't it work no matter what? I tried a *228, but it didn't do anything...

If USCC has activated it, it should be on their system. I would have them double check it to make sure it really is activated.

Now, if you're out in the boonies and roaming a lot, you might want to update the PRL (*228 from your home area) to make sure you're getting access to all of the available (roaming) towers.

It wouldn't hurt to make sure your Q isn't set to some funky setting in the "Phone Settings> Network screen - should (probably) be Automatic A or B (doesn't much matter which).

Hope this helps.

I'm not in the boonies, Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin (our 2 biggest cities). I tried *228 and it was set on automatic A, I changed it to B to see if that changes anything.

when you turn the phone on does it say US Cellular on the splash screen?

If it doesn't then it is not a US Cellular phone, and though you may have it activated on their network it will not work properly.

Just because USCC carries the phone it does not mean that your particular phone is compatible with their network.

If it does say US Cellular. you may have the wrong Home SID programmed in. I would take the phone in to them and get it looked at
