Default Just Bought a Q

And I'm SERIOUSLY thinking about returning it tomorrow. The reps barely knew anything about it's functionality, most of them assumed that if stuff worked on Windows, it would work on Windows Mobile. AIM doesn't work, and from reading on other sites, it doesn't work at all on Qs, and I don't want to start downloading 3rd party programs right away when other issues aren't resolved.

I can't synch to either my Gmail or work e-mail. I can understand work, because IT may have specifics that I don't have/know. But Gmail is rediculous. I can connect by going to mail.google.com, but cannot make it work through the email settings on the phone.

The worst feature is the inability to recieve calls while using Internet Explorer. I mean, what is the point of even using the internet service if you can't get phone calls while using it?

I'm worried that I might have to go back and get an 8703 or an 8830.

Well first of all you 'can' recieve calls while using PIE.
All I can suggest is that you atleast try to see all the great things the Q can actually do before condemning it.

The members here are extremely knowledgeable and probably can help you resolve every single issue you run into....

Let's start with AIM........ I don't have nor use it, but explain your issue...... someone will help you with it, I guarantee you that.

Your phone doesn't ring right thru?

I can be doing whatever on PIE and always rings if I'm receiving a call...
Not sure why not for you...?

I have Verizon but I don't think that makes any difference, AFAIK

If you're willing to try, you can download Opera Mini which would access the web differently and may allow the calls to come thru.
You would need to get the JBED midlet manager in order to launch Opera Mini because it's java, but it is faster than PIE and some pages load more like the actual desktop pages.

Just search for g-funksters thread about JBED and it will give you instruction to get the file posted by Cloudyfa in another forum site. Then how to get the Opera Mini .jar file which the JBED midlet manager will install and launch.

I know you said you didn't want to install 3rd party softwares yet, but since it's free....nothing to lose, no??

Youcan always do a master reset to restore the program to it's original state if you still decide you're going to return it.

read the IM Thread
3 that might NOT be on there are Palringo, MunduIM and a new one that Prosper found Slick

try reading this thread regarding DDTM
even though it says 'sprint' it still might apply to you
and the reason you cant receive calls while in data is a 'provider' issue not a phone issue as you can tell by the thread i provided a link too.

before you go and blow up take a little time to read and get a quainted with the phone...thats why we have the forum for information...so people can solve there problems

i have had mine since feb with out any major issues...sure a bump in the road here or there but by far the best phone that i have had
give it sometime to get used

EV-DO is the first technology for CDMA that permits calls while in an active data session. We at USCC have not yet implemented EV-DO. On 1xRTT (our current data technology), when you're physically downloading something (web page, email, app, whatever) calls will go straight to VM.

This is true of Pocket IE, The browser on Blackberry phones, or the data service we call easyedge. It's a function of the technology, not the software on the phone/device.

i can't believe some reps.. anyway, many have come to your "rescue" and the Q is not a device that does everything out of the box..

as i said before, the Q is not for everyone...

Well as I have found out ex post facto from 0siris, the BlackBerry does the same thing, despite what the STORE MANAGER told me. Looks like it's over to T-Mobile for me.

Oh and as an aside, I really thought that the Q is a decent machine, my girlfriend was going to keep hers until the phone she had started giving off really loud feedback when put up to her ears. The first phone did that in the store before we walked out the door, and she didn't have the problem for the next two days, but it started acting up again.
